What Vitamins strengthens the eye - Vitamins & Supplements Message Board

Hi,
I have a Down Syndrom son who has a disease call keratoconus, He is someday going to have to have corneal transplants in both eye's. With this condition he get a tare behind his cornea, when this happens , his cornea bulges and fill with a whitish fluid which covers the pupil and you cannot not see. The eye stays this way until the tare heals and then the fluid eventually leaves the cornea and he can see again. Is there a vitamin that will strengthen his eye tissue so this might not happen again???

I dont think there's much you can do for this disease especially since Cornea's do not have their own blood supply (only tears nutrients). They are made up of collagen/keratin so you may want to explore going to a health food store and trying some natural eyedrops with Vit-C and Pycnogenol /Grapeseed as these can enhance collagen .......

The best vitamin for the eyes is Lutein.
Billberry is also good.
But Lutein is by far the best.
You want to get atleast 20 MG Lutein.
Alot of Vitamin companies make 20 MG Lutein Vitamins.
I get the Nature's Bounty 20 MG Lutein vitamin.
Nature's Bounty just came out with a 40 MG Lutein vitamin.
I'v seen it in Walgreens.

Thanks for the info, I'm going to check out Walgreen's and see what they have, Is there a certain dose you should take when you compare it to your body weight?

Karen, no you dont need to worry about any dose compared to your body weight.

What I like about Walgreens.
They always have a buy one get one free.
So I get the Nature's Bounty 20 MG when its buy one get one free.
