Anger and Mood swings

Anyone know of any supplements that would help with anger and mood swings. I get these mainly due to being bipolar.

O, and also anxiety. I'm thinking of B Vitamins.

Thanx

Re: Anger and Mood swings

I get also bad mood swings and anger attacks.
You could try St John's wort or 5-HTP and Valerian.
Those are the most well known vitamins for calmness.
Nature's Bounty makes a 5 HTP vitamin with Valerian.

If the vitamins dont work.
You could try the anti depressants for bipolar.
But ofcourse those have side effects.
I'm talking about Lithium, Abilify, Lamical.
I tried abilify and it just made my vision to blurry, so i stoped taking it.

Lai....I have read on other threads about people using the Fish oils (omega-3) fatty acids for helping in depression.I do not suffer from depression so i can not say if it helps or not but you may wish to try them and see if they help.....

Re: Anger and Mood swings

I have read so many good things about fish oil. It is cheap and is just so good for you that you could not possibly go wrong using it as directed. Most of the actual clinical research that I have read regarding fish oil and mood disorders is that fish oil is proven successful at making bipolar medications more effective in mood stabilization. Also, if you are self-medicating, be careful with calcium supplements because I vaguely remember reading that excess calcium can aggravate Bipolar symptoms. Don't remember where I read it though.

Re: Anger and Mood swings

I used to take something called Calm and Calmer. It had l-theanine, and rhodiola in it. L-theanine is the dopamine booster that is in green tea. At the time I was taking so many supplements that I really couldn't tell you if it worked for me. I had to cut down on supplements and that was the one I ended up dropping.

I tried GABA but don't think it helped me although some swear by it. I am sure of one thing, though. L-glutamine which feeds GABA receptors in the brain does help cut my anger down by a lot.
