What's good for congestive heart failure?

If you could suggest anything otc vitamins or supplements that might help congestive heart failure in any way, even a little bit. I have a friend that lives in the back bush of Kenya Africa and he has congestive heart failure. Not many medical specialists out that way. I would like to send him something that could help him a little. He does so much good for the people out there and deserves a better chance. He has started an elementary school that now has over 700 students, he started two clinics, his church started 352 bush churches and he has helped to dig 52 wells in areas that had no pure water. I would love for him to be more comfortable and be able to get back on his feet.

It sounds like your friend is doing a wonderful job there. Is he taking any medicine for his congested heart failure? CHF causes the lungs to fill with fluid as the heart can't pump good enough. All I can think of is Vitamen C. It can act as a diuretic. He will need to watch for pneumonia, again Vitmin C may help there.. Best wishes to him and you for being such a good friend.

Also try Coq10, very important for the heart.

Re: What's good for congestive heart failure?

My advice on supplements for congested heart failure is

300 to 600 mg Co-Q 10 daily
2000 mg Taurine daily
2000 mg L-Carnitine daily
3000 mg Hawthorn daily

Taurine will help in the fluid retention and the other 3 will help in rebuilding the heart muscle to pump better...

the most important supplement for Congestive Heart Failure is arginine, he needs to take a minimum of 5gr a day though.

I'm sorry but thats incorrect. Arginine is a vessel dialator which is good for Atherosclerosis and other clogging issues however Congested Heart Failure is where the heart muscle itself is dying. Arginine will not help the muscle much at all but Co-Q10 is the best supplement on earth to rebuild those Cardiac cells along with Carnitine and Hawthorn...

Someone who has Congested Heart Failure and is reading this needs the proper answer(s) as their life could be at stake....

Re: What's good for congestive heart failure?

CORRECTION

L-Arginine is HIGHLY recommended for patients with Dilated Cardiomyopathy & Congestive Heart Failure. By acting as a vasodilator, it relaxes the Left Ventrical so it can fill more easily and eject blood more forcefully. I was on an ACE Inhibitor (vasodilator) and my cardiologist had no problem with me taking 6000-10000 mg of L-Arginine

Re: What's good for congestive heart failure?

I'm not a physician and would never tell someone to go against what their physician told them to take so i wanted to get that out. Secondly i did go back a Re-Research Arginine and Cardiomyopathy and i did see it is recommended in connection with CoQ10 which is very powerful in helping to increase the pumping ability of the heart muscle along with L-Carnitine.

I beleive most persons with Coronary Artery Plaque do not have CHF and would benefit from Arginine as their arteries need more blood flow where as many with CHF have a diseased heart muscle that is weakened and need need CoQ10 and Carnitine to powerup the hearts ability to pump and help in fluid retention.

I'm always eager to learn so thankyou ! (nednj)
