| Re: Need a good multivitamin
Hello Ultraseamus,
Welcome!
Opinions will vary of course. The only reason why most people do not like Centrum is because this Multivitamin is Synthetic (not natural), or so they say. It is clear, however, that the natural form of Vitamin E absorb and works better in the body that it's synthetic counterpart. This can not be said about every vitamin and mineral. In this regard, opinions will vary.
First, I strongly believe that we need to get our vitamins and minerals from the foods we eat. This is how humans been getting there needs since the beginning of mankind. Multivitamins are ONLY supplement pills. Many sadly believe that just popping a multivitamin will help them even though they eating crapping foods. It just doesn't work like that. Try to add fruits and vegetables in your diet and eat healthy as much as you can. People need to stop going to fast food restaurants (like McDonald) every day and start eating healthy. Occasionally, we can give ourselves a treat, but we need to try to eat healthy as much as possible. I know it's hard getting all our necessary vitamins, minerals, etc, from our food source, especially in America, but eating healthy as much as possible helps.
With that in mind, I use Nature Made Multi for Him. I like that the fact that Nature Made added 1,000IU of Vitamin D, which has showed to prevent various types cancer if used for a prolong period of time. Personally, it is good multivitamin supplement pill. It also does not contain any Iron. I know there are many "High potency" vitamins out there (like those which you mention). I just do not see any reason why one should take these types vitamins (some of these vitamins have extremely high levels of certain vitamins). In my case, I get enough of my vitamins and minerals in my daily diet, so a daily multivitamin like Nature Made is good enough for me.
Alive! seems to be a good multivitamin. I will probably buy it and take 1 a day, since taking the recommended dose (3 tablets daily) is too strong for me. This multivitamin seems to be very popular among many forums. But I am very comfortable with my multivitamin so I don't know what I am going to do yet. For a average American who is eating healthy, 1 tablet of this multivitamin is enough in my opinion. I believe taking the recommended dose is too strong.
You should start taking Fish Oil. You can reserach online about the benefits of Fish Oil. 1 gram (1,000 mg) of combined EPA and DHA is recommend for healthy individuals. It is good for your heart, brain, and many other parts of your body. I used Nature's Bounty Fish Oil (1200mg). I will also suggest you start drinking Green Tea. Green Tea has be showed to works wonder in your body. You can also take a Green tea extract (I use Nature Made Green Tea Extract). You can also reserach the benefits of Green Tea online.
Concerning Iron. We don't need any extra Iron! It has simple as that. Scientific evidence shows that men as a lower daily requirement for Iron, then women. Since you are 22 years old, I am assuming you eating meat everyday. It that case, you are getting ENOUGH iron and should be supplementing with any additional Iron. Iron is bad for men. It has show to cause cancer. The reason is simple. Whereas women "lose" there Iron through there monthly menstrual cycle, men does not lose any. Iron stays in our blood, and the more we add Iron in our diet the worst it is. It can be toxic.
Take care,
Nature Made
