Re: vitamin D

Hello
I have read all your posts and this interested me. I'm 52 and have been on prescription vit d, 50,000 iu now for almost 3 months, my 2nd time. I feel absolutely horrible, I am now experiencing my 2nd flu like symptoms, body aches, muscle aches, leg hurt terribly, especially at night. Sore throat, back pain, headaches, cough, light headed dizzy feeling. I just feel very off . I go march 2, to have my levels checked, but if they are still low, I may opt not to go thru this again, my level was 30 at the time i started, Does this sound like vit d toxicity to you ? I'd appreciate your feedback, finally I have found others who have experienced the same horrible side effects since I cannot find hardly anything online about side effects, toxicity. Thank you kindly

Re: vitamin D

It might be better to take 2000iu of vitamin D3 each day, rather than 50 000iu all at once.

How often do you take your 50 000iu? if its once a month, toxicity is unlikely, if its once a day, thats a whole different story.

Re: vitamin D

Cvoor, most prescription Vitamin D is D2. The body doesn't absorb it very well. You should ask your doctor about changing your vitamin D to D3. D3 is absorbed better by the body. And you might also ask him about adding an extra calcuim/magnesium summlement as well. I've read posts in other areas where D2 causes people similar problems. I don't understand why doctors prescribe this D2 over the D3 on a regular basis. All I can attribute it to is disinformation from the pharmaceutical industry. Good luck. And don't forget about the calcium/magnesium.

Re: vitamin D

I will ask the doc, I Hate having to take another dose on monday. I'm going to see how i feel, my leg pain has lessened because it's been 4 days since my last dose, but on monday when i take it, the pain will start again, and it seems to suppress my immune system. I think it creates more problems for me.

Re: vitamin D

Basically vitamin D is essential for proper calcium metabolism (ie healthy bones and teeth). It is also important for a number of other process - eg healthy immune system, and protects against cancer and neurodegenerative conditions

vitamin d is a hormone that's called a vitamin. I take a lot because I have no stomach acid production, and it may be called for in any kind of malabsorption problems or gut issues and not be absorbed well and a person may need shots. I'm getting by with oral 10,000 oral D3 daily at this point. But I've not had blood work(putting it off until I can get it less expensively). It's completely required or my sleep gets very bad and I wake up after only a few hours and cannot get back to sleep.

Re: vitamin D

Hi i have just read your post. I went to my gp in march with a pain in my left side tiredness and occassional palpitaions. Had thyroid tests anemia test and vitamin d. Vitamin d came back at 23 and was given 50,000u ergocalciferol 1 a week for 8 weeks followed by adcal tablets 2 each morning and evening. On the 6th week of taking the ergocalciferol my legs and hands swelled and had terrific pain. Went to gp he thought i had dvt and then diagnosed phlebitis. I then started gettin severe palpitations numbness and tingling in arms legs and face with facial twitches very dehydrated. Hospital said non specific gp need to investigate. I lost my temper with gp and insisted on more bloods. my thyroid anti bodies came back as 543 with range of 0-34. Sent to endocrinologist who thinks it not thyroid related he did more tests which i am waiting for results. Also seen vascular specialist they ruled out mini strokes. Saw heart specialist today and have found out that now i have been retested for vitamin d my level is now 129.4. A pharmacist has told me my gp has overdosed me. I feekl like i am falling and hand muscles spasm on there own. I woke up to a rash like meningitis on my arm today but its not a meningitis rash. Am going back to gp tonight but dont hold much hope as he thinks this is all anxiety!!! Any help would be apreciated. Ps have also insisted on a neurology app 10th august
