there are so many different types of vitamins, is it better to take a multivitamins that suppose to cure a number of thing, than a single vitamin that could handle just one thing?
If you are deficient in one vitamin, take just that one vitamin. If you are looking to improve overall health and make sure you're getting enough of everything, a multi is best.
Men should usually choose a multi with little iron in it, because it's easier for men to get too much iron, which can be dangerous.
If you read through previous posts you will see there have been other discussions about this; actually, one just recently.
My feeling is if you are generally healthy your body doesn't need supplementation. Better to make sure you're eating healthy, non-adulterated food and exercising.
If you have a specific problem then you can address that with supplementation specific for that ailment.
Very very few people get the proper nutrition. Most of the foods we eat have been processed to the point that there is little or no nutrients left in it. It is generally best to take a good multivitamin/multimineral supplement these days. Unless you are one of those 7 people in the world that raise all of their own food without any chemicals on them and with nongeneticly altered seeds or meats. Odds are, you are like the rest of us. It's not a good idea to take large amounts of just one vitamin or mineral. (unless you are directed by a certified health professional for a particular reason) Vitamins and minerals work together in the body to perform all of the tasks that your body needs to perform to keep you healthy. A good balance is always the best place to start. I recommend staying away from name brand vitamins and minerals. These are typically synthetic (made by the chemical/pharmaceutical industries). Your best bet is to find whole food vitamins and minerals. These are vitamins and minerals that are derived from organically grown plants without chemicals. The closest thing you will get to growing and eating your own. You can check out New Chapter Organics. They have many natural options there. Good luck.
