I have IBS-predominate constipation and normally have small 'mouse pellet-type' stool. I eat healthy, exercise, drink a lot of water, however, I'm chronically constipated. I use to take Senna, which I've since stopped and I avoid laxatives.
I've heard magnesium citrate, if taken in high doses, can cause diarrhea yet I've been taking 1500 mg of magnesium citrate every night for about four nights now and I'm still constipated. I wake up the next morning and still have no urge to use the bathroom and when I do use the bathroom, I notice no difference in the constipation.
On the fourth night of taking 1500 mg, I woke up in the middle of the night, super hot, extremely nauseous, and vomited, (not to mention, extremely dry mouth) I assume it's from the magnesium or is it from the constipation? Is 1500 mg too high?
well, I eat at least 25 grams of fiber a day. It's difficult to eat three solid meals a day because of the constipation so I can often go long periods of time without eating because of a loss of appetite. But I do eat a lot of fruit and a lot of fiber and drink mostly water. Occasionally coffee (which only constipates me more)
As for the magnesium, I was taking a magnesium that I thought was helping (I can't remember what type of magnesium or dosage) I don't think it was citrate. Since switching to the high dosage of citrate, I've been feeling worst though. (I stopped taking the citrate the other night and was fine, so I assume that was the cause, unless I'm vomiting simply because I can't take a bowel movement)
Okay. You didn't mention vegetables, but I'm sure you know their very important.
This is a product I recommended to a friend who had ongoing constipation, as you have described - ARA 6 - Pure Larch Powder. He said it was the only thing that helped him.
