Vitamin D low

Hi does anyone have any information regarding low vitamin D and what that can cause and what to do about it. Should one take vitamin D to increase it and for how long? My number is 18 which the docs say is low and that I need 2000 vitamin D daily? Are there risks? I don't take any vitamins and am in my early 50's so I reallly don't know anything about vitamins and supplements? Please any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Re: Vitamin D low

My wife's Vit D was 16 and she did not get much sun.

It took her almost a year to get it up to 45 taking 8000 units daily of D3. mine was 51 when I first had it measured. I take 2000 units twice daily.

I have read that the maximium you should take orally is 10,000 units daily of D-3.

I wish you well---Harry
