For the last several months my dr's have told me I am D3 deficient. I was told to take 5000 iu a day. I have not done it.
A month ago I broke my ankle, all three bones, and dislocated. It broke rock hopping in the mountains. It kinda rolled, I then stood up and made it even worse. Anyway, I see that one of the condtions of a D3 deficiency is weaker bones.
I am now taking 5000 iu a day. Will taking D3 get my bones strong again, or is this irreversable? I am 43 years old. Also, when D3 levels are back to normal should I continue taking D3 every day anyway.
Any shared info on D3 will be greatly appreciated. I do not want to go through this again.
Yes, the D3 will help but you should also add a K-2 supplement to take at the same time you take the D-3. You will need to take D-3 until your values are to where they should be, but at some point you may be able to lower the dose to about 2000 IU. If I were you I would have the 25 hydroxy test done about every 6 months or so as some people do have difficulty maintaining proper levels. Getting at least 20 minutes of noon day sun on your skin would also be worthwhile.
