Which Selenium test is better --- (serum/plasma) or (whole blood)?
Hi. I am a 39-year-old male, and I have autoimmune hypothyroidism.
I am monitoring my Selenium levels because I know that a Selenium deficiency can negatively affect FT4 - to - T3 conversion.
I've had Selenium tests before (a private serum/plasma test in 2011, and a serum/plasma test and a whole-blood test ordered by my current endo earlier this year). However, my endo no longer wants to order Selenium tests. She feels she doesn't know enough about Selenium's connection to hypothyroidism, and she does not want to have the legal liability that comes with ordering Selenium tests. So, I have to go back to private tests.
I need to know which test is better. Is it serum/plasma or whole blood?
