Re: Lap band surgery

hello smurfett
The cost in the US is around 15K-30K,and w/ no Insurance I would say you have a long road ahead if you have to pay for the Lap-band yourself ...good luck

Re: Lap band surgery

I already watch what I eat (no fast food, no soda, few refined carbs) and exercise. I was diagnosed with pre-diabetses almost two years ago and with diet and exercise have brought my blood sugar down, but still have a very hard time losing weight. I am also hypothyroid which makes it even harder. I'm not even sure this will work for me, but I'm willing to give it a try. I just went through all of this surgery and love the way I look, but I know in my heart that the fat I have left aroung my upper abs is dangerous fat that liposuction can't touch.

Re: Lap band surgery

I was banded 12/14/05
I couldn't be happier about my decision to get my lapband. Before I had the band I was popping about 6-9 advil a day for pain in my knees and elbows as well as headaches. I can honestly say that now I have only taken liquid tylenol 3 times since my surgery ( 1 mo today!!) and it was for a mild headache of returning back to work . To date I have lost 21 pounds. And I do have to agree with newtim, that this is only a tool for weightloss. All tools work when used properly. Also the biggest factor is not really the lack of appetite in the tummy. Its the appetite that we have in our minds that is the hardest battle. I LOVE MY BAND!!!

Re: Lap band surgery

Well it's very good to hear all of this and I appreciate it very much. I start my journey tomorrow with my first GP appt. and hopefully in a few months I will be telling people the same thing.

Ok, had appt. with General Practitioner, got a referral to bariatric surgeon...what happens next? What should I be getting ready to give to insurance company?

Re: Lap band surgery

I had my lap-band surgery on Halloween, 2005. i have had good results so far. I am 3 mos. post surgery and have lost 31 lbs., which my surgeon said is right on schedule. The fills are really not a big deal, very quick and easy. I would recommend it to anyone thinking about the procedure. Ask any questions, I will be happy to answer!

I really dont mean to stray form the subject but just wondering where u are at as far as the process for having gb surgery? I am scheduled for march 2nd. i have strongly considered the band and really wish i could get it, but my insurance wont cover it. they will only cover gb surgery. Im waaaaaay excited. I think though, if I had the option to choose which one, I would have opted for the band. Mostly because as much as I want to lose a lot of weight, the idea of losing that much weight so fast and ending up with the hangy skin bothers me. But, not as much as the idea of having a heart attack at 31 (almost) years old.

Whatever option you choose, do it for the right reasons and not just for vanity purposes. Its too big a lifestyle change to take lightly.....
