Welcome to puberty.
I went through the same thing--when I was a kid I was scrawny, and then as soon as I hit about 5th grade, I shot up to about 110 lbs, and then it was up from there. I was about 164 in 6th, and then I stopped counting--I was about a size 12/14.
Culture and diet have a lot to do with it, and I know that it can also be an emotional/hormonal weight gain. The thing is that you realize that you can take control of it now and reverse that trend. Whatever "normal" is doesn't really matter, as long as you feel good about yourself and can appreciate your body.
