Post Anyone have IBS/trying to do low-carb?

I'm on Adkins and I'm having typical IBS symptoms- I can't stay out of the restroom. If you have this disease you know what I mean. Please, any suggestions?

Hi Kelli, I too have IBS and I am currently doing the mayo clinic diet. I had problems too when I first started it, but I have found taking an over the counter fiber supplement like fiber-con has helped. Don't know what you have tried but hopefully that will help ya! Hang in there!!

Ok, so fiber and kelp are ok even if you have the cramping and diarrhea, right? Sorry to be gross!

Thanks so much for the tips- my idea of ignoring the problem and even thinking, "oh, maybe this will speed up my weight loss" is maybe not so hot....

I have IBS and have been doing Low carb for about 2 1/2 weeks. I had a lot more diarrhea than usual the first week, but it wasn't accompanied by cramping or pain. Then my system started to get back to normal, well normal for us with IBS. I now have the usual where I am backed up for a few days, then have diarrhea, and so on. Your weight loss tends to stall during the "backed up" days, but it will pick up again once you go. I do notice that after I eat dinner now, I don't have to rush to the bathroom like I used to have to do. I really think the Low carb diet helps a little with IBS.

Kelli,
Not to be gross, but fiber helps form bulk, thus leading to less diarhea and more regular bowel movements.......
