Question Carbs, dark breads, glucose, macrobiotic diet, etc.

Can't figure out the carb thing! I'm a vegetarian so have to have some. I'm "against" white breads, tortillas, etc. because I've heard something about gluocose in them which raises your blood sugar and contributes to diabetes. Anyone try to eat dark breads, rice, pastas and not just give them up?

Why are they better and what about carbs in vegetables? Better than in breads I suppose...

Anyone try a macrobiotic diet with success for weight loss? I *think* they eat only dark grains, of the grains and carbs.

Sort of confused, just want some info

If you have not already, and are interested, do some reading on Food Combining... the French have been doing it for ages and it makes sense... I read a couple of Suzanne Somers books on it and was convinced... she does not follow a "high fat, extreme low carb" thing... I eat brown rices, whole wheat pastas, pumpernickel and whole wheat breads (although I really don't eat them much because I no longer crave them), almost all veggies except carrots, almost all fruits, milk, cheese, eggs, etc. It is just the WAY you eat them and with WHAT. It can all be very confusing... I personally believe that the bad carbs is what makes people fat, JMHO... I know it is what kept me fat for years... That being said, there are whole wheat tortillas, bread, pasta, etc. The whole wheat is not as high on the glycemic index as white flour...

Good luck, whatever you do... make sure it is right for you
