Question im confused..

For a 1,200 calorie diet, how much carbs is too much? I'm only 16 and counting calories, I don't want to screw it up by eating too much carbs! I love oatmeal, and cereals, and breads, which I thought was all good because they were low fat. Any information would be of great help. I'm not sure if my age matters?

It really depends... different things work for different people... If you want to follow lower carb, first thing you should cut out is white bread, white potatoes, sugar (most cereals are loaded)... try to eat more lean meats, veggies, whole grain products, etc. Find a plan that works for you... I usually eat around 160g of carbs each day... On a 1200 calorie diet... I keep fat low and protein higher... good luck!

16 is too young to be counting calories. You're still growing. Focus on physical activity instead.

I hate to disagree, but I think 16 is the perfect age to start thinking about healthy eating habits... when the majority of this country's youth is falling into the overweight category and the amount of obese children growing, I think we need to start teaching our children healthy eating habits early on... had I learned early enough, before the unhealthy eating habits set in, I may have never struggled like I did... sorry to disagree, just my opinion. Of course I think 16 is too young to obsess, but 1200 calories a day is not unhealthy for an active teen...

I have to agree with goincrusin. I remember at 16 I was not eating badly, but because of meds I put on tons of weight. No matter what I did!!! I ate very strictly, exercised and nothing worked. When I was 18 I got really sick and lost 60lbs in 6 weeks (down to a size 4...) and didn't regain any weight, for years at least.

Now I'm here because after 3 pregnancies I can't get rid of the baby weight- and my baby is now 4...

I don't want to sound like a mother (because I am not one) but you should check with your parents or someone who is responable for you, and go to a doctor or nutritionist for advice. At your height of 4'9" what is the doctors chart weight for you? you only weigh 90 lbs. All I'm saying is be careful with your body. Take care, Suz
P.S. I am 230lbs now but I was 350 lbs at 5'9", from the past crash dieting.
