Post I am losing weight. Does that mean I have a lack of protein?

or is it more complicated than that? I'm overly skinny as a guy. 6 feet at 148 lb!!!

i try to eat alot of protein and meat. But i play alot of sports and do weight lifting and running. I try to eat ALOT to compensate for all the calories i'm burning off.

lately, i've been losing some weight. Does that mean I'm lacking protein? Another reason is I'm losing my hair lately. Does that mean I'm lacking protein? i kinda hope it is, cause i would choose that over Male pattern baldness (none of my mom and dad's family side is bald, even grandpa).

Can anyone explain why i'm losing weight despite eating so much? is this a disease? or do i lack the enzymes to absorb protein? please help. i am worrying about my weight since i can't get it up and i'm losing my muscles (noticably getting smaller each week). I'm also losing my hair which is my main concern!

Losing weight and hair could be a sign of hyperthyroid.
I was diagnosed 3 years ago with hyperthyroid and graves disease and I had the same symptoms. Are you warm or have a sensitivity to heat? that can be a smyptom as well. You should see your DR. and have him/her to a blood test to test your levels.
Also, are you eating enough good calories......for your height, not sure of your age, and your activity level you should be eating alot...2500-3000 maybe. As well you should keep eating throughout the day. Many meals rather than the typical 3. Good Luck and get that thyroid checked....I agree that you have reason to be concerned. Keep us posted!

Yep, sounds like thyroid. At any rate, unintentional weight loss isn't a good thing. Time for a checkup by your doctor. No fooling around, it could be a serious problem.

thanks for the help. Yes, i got a body check 2 days ago, but i just can't wait for the results in a week. by that time, i'd probably have bald patches by the rate i'm losing my hair. for those who have lost their hair, how does it happen? do they just fall off, or do they turn thin and fall off?

this is seriously worrying me.

Hi Kevdude! Relax, if it is thyroid, the best thing is that it is controlled with medication. In MY case, I had the graves as well and had to have my thyroid removed. Not so bad, i pop a pill once a day!
Now, the hair thing, seeing as one of my best features was my long THICK brown hair, losing it and having very thin hair was awful for me. Mine got very thin and would break easily. I was clogging the shower drains because so much would come out when I washed my hair! There was literally hair everywhere! The good news is that once medicated properly it does grow back. I finally have my thick hair again! Don't worry, worry will just make you feel worse. Keep up the excerise and weights, eat 5-6 healthy meals a day and don't try to fill up on empty calories to gain weight because that is not good for your health! Good Luck and keep us posted!
