Cool

Hi joe88,

I did a version of it in the Atkins book, it was called the fat fast...same idea. It does work but you really get sick of the fat!! You must then continue a very low carb plan when you finish the fat flush or you will gain. It is meant for people who have a slow metabolism to jumpstart there weight loss. Make sure you follow it exact. How much weight are looking at losing? If you only have alittle, I personally don't recommend it. Good luck and keep us posted.

'the fat flush diet' a book, and is a diet *very* different from the fat fast in atkins book.

the fat flush diet is low carb *and* low fat, where you eat a lot of protein and vegetables, and some fruits, you take lots of supplements, and you drink unsweetened cranberry juice all day to flush your system.

the fat fast is where you eat 1000 calories of (just about) pure fat (cream cheese, macadamia nuts, etc.) every day.

i know someone who lost 30 lbs. by rigidly sticking to the fat flush diet and exercising all the time. it has not worked so well for me. it made me miss carbs!

Re: Fat Flush diet

hi trish - do you think the diet is safe? also, how long did the person lose 30 lbs. in? I am curious. Is it a day to day diet or something you have to remember? Do they give you menus or the food? How does it work. Are you saying the diet isn't working for you because you aren't sticking to it or because it's not so great?

I know it's a lot of questions but I am trying to figure out if I should do South Beach, Fat Flush or NutriSystem. I want some advice to pick the right one. Thanks :-)

Re: Fat Flush diet

The Fat Flush Plan, by Ann Louise Gittleman is definitely NOT the same thing as the fat flush in Atkins!
The FFP has 3 Phases (and predates South Beach by quite a bit); the first phase is most restrictive (food-wise) and it's goals are to 1) clean out and strengthen the liver (your major fat-burning organ), 2) stabilize blood sugar, 3) eliminate hidden food intolerances, and 4) stabilize hormones (yeah, both women AND men have hormones ). It lasts for two weeks. You get unlimited veggies, 2 servings of low glycemic fruit, about 8 oz lean protein, some flax seed oil, and greatly diluted unsweetened cranberry juice (64 oz per day). Phase 1 is NOT carb-free as there are carbs in the cranberry juice, the veggies and the fruit. Also, it's important to eat every 2-3 hours.
Phase 2, the long term weight loss phase, starts adding back carbs very carefully (spelt bread, sweet potatoes, peas, etc.). How long you stay on P2 depends on how much you have to lose and how closely you stick to the eating guidelines.
Phase 3 is the maintenance phase when healthy versions of all the old faves come back (whole grain pasta, brown rice, yogurt, cheese, etc.).
Supplements, in the form of vitamins and liver support are strongly recommended but not required. I did the eating plan for 2 months without 'em and lost a LOT. That said, it makes sense to take a high quality multivitamin no matter WHAT you eat, and GLA - an essential fatty acid - is...well...essential! LOL. Whether you take the liver support stuff is up to you.
You don't hafta count carbs, you don't hafta count points, you don't hafta buy special brands of food (ala WW and Jenny Craig). This is good, 'cause I'm math impaired.

I've tried other diets and "miracle" pills. They didn't work. FFP not only worked, but gave me a new svelte body, tons of energy, lovely skin, and took 10 years off my age. How can I not recommend it? LOL!
The thing is, NO DIET WORKS without a lifestyle change! Guess FFP came along when I was ready for one. The other thing is, NO DIET WORKS for EVERYONE! One size don't fit all, folks. Sad, but true.

I'm 5'8" and started FFP 40/37/47 wt:203
I'm still 5' 8" () 36/29/37 wt: 146
I lost the weight in a little less than 6 months, start to finish and have been in maintenance (Phase 3) for almost 6 months. I haven't had any trouble maintening my weight. I don't feel deprived. In fact, I've not only got tons of energy, my perimenopausal symptoms have largely disappeared (hair stopped falling out, sleep improved, brain fog went poof***) and I deeply enjoy the foods I eat these days.
The other day when my son pleaded with me to have a bite of his pastry (long story) I ran to the sink to wash the heavy taste of sugar out of my mouth. It made me physically ill.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a chocoholic of long standing (in remission!) and now and then I indulge in cocoa or veddy veddy high end piece of chocolate. Life is good. Life on FFP is phenomenal!

Change is good!

best wishes everyone,
charli
