Post Sugar free does not mean no carbs

Isn't it true that carbs are carbs in any sense? I see that there is all this new candy and stuff that is sugar free, however, when I check the label, the carbs are still at least 20 or more grams. If I was to substitute less sugar, but same amount of carbs, would there be any difference in weight? I am under the assumption that this is not how it works. Any response would be so helpful for me to understand this better..Thank you and good luck to all..

i am not quite sure how it all works, but now many people will talk about net carbs...they are the amount of carbs that actually effect the insulin levels in the body... fiber is a carb but it is not absorbed and i believe passes through so when you see a number with carbs listed and fiber listed you can subtract the fiber grams from the total carb count. also with sugars alcohol that comes from the sugar substitutes such as malitol...those are also deducted from the toatl carb count..many packages now will list the "net carbs" on the package so even though it might say 20 total carbs the net carbs may end up being 2 or 4...
i hope i am making sense to you...(i am not always good at explaining things!) hope this helps..have a great day!!
