Post Trying to lose weight post SSRI (back on SSRI)

I'm SO depressed. Not depressed in the medical sense, depreesed about my weight gain. I have gained almost 40 pounds in the last year. OMG! I have never, ever had a problem with weight. The gain began shortly after starting Zoloft (this was to treat symptoms of anxiety). I weaned off Zoloft 2 months ago, decreased my calorie intake to 1200/day or less and have had NO weight loss, in fact I've gained another 5 pounds. TSH is within normal limits. Today I started Lexapro. As much as I hate the extra weight, I hate how I feel off Zoloft more.... Feel like I get the "Mean Mommy" award (as in Mommy Dearest mean mommy.....) Spend most of the day yelling at my kids and trying to "tolerate" them.

So, has anyone had success losing weight (when the gain was attributed to SSRI) while still on an SSRI? I'd love to hear what you did!

I took Prozac for about 5 yrs on and off and I gained a TON! I went from about 160 to 220 in about 1 year (after I went off). I took it for panic disorder. I lost a lot at first, but then started slowly gaining it all back. Then when I went off it came back like CRAZY! I think it really messed up my metabolism. Not sure why. I'm doing atkins and when I'm good at following it, I seem to be able to lose a lot. But I keep cheating when I don't feel well, so It can be slow going at times. I do feel great though when I'm following it. Good luck.

I take Lexapro and I gained 15 lbs since starting it.
I am on atkins and have now lost 18 lbs. SSRI's are know to make you gain weight. Its really depressing that they have that effect on people.
You will just need to cut back on things to get rid of the weight.
good luck to you and there is a lot of support here to help you reach your goal. join us....
