Question Salad Dressing Help

Hi!

In my efforts to eat healthier and lose a little weight in the process, I could use some advice when it comes to salad dressings ... I was at Wendy's yesterday and got a caesar salad ( I asked for a pack of the regular Caesar dressing and a pack of the Light Ranch dressing to compare.)
Here's my dilemna ... I have learned the hard way to be weary of fat free or low fat items because of what they add to take away fat or calories.

The Light dressing had 50 less calories, 8 less fat grams (1 less saturated fat), 5 mg less of cholesterol BUT it is higher in sodium and has 6 carbs as opposed to the regular dressing's 1 carb.

My question is, when it comes to weight management, should I opt for the Light Dressing or the Regular??? I hate the carbs vs. calories debate!

(I know no dressing is best but that isn't happening and at least this way I'm not eating fries!)

Advice anyone???

I like to keep my salad dressing very simple and very healthy, i.e.,

A mixture of 1 tablespoon of Extra Virgin Olive oil and 1 tablespoon of Red Wine Vinegar.

Calories = 125
Total Fat = 14 g (Saturated Fat = 2 g, Polyunsaturated Fat = 1 g, Monounsaturated Fat = 11 g)
Cholesterol = zero
Sodium = 5 mg

Extra Virgin Olive Oil is one of the great dietary supplements, IMO. I usually add an extra tabelspoon of EVOO (along with a tablespoon of Flax Seed Oil) to my 'get out of bed first thing in the morning protein shake'.

I second that! I make my own with olive oil, balsamic vinegar and fresh garlic and some herbs. I jujst shake it up in a jar. It's yummy and good for you!

I find that the lowfat/ calorie varieties have too much sugar. Sometimes it's hidden, but it's in there.

I guess it depends on if you're counting calories or carbs. I would choose the one that had fewer calories because I need to stay under 1300 calories a day. If you're doing low carb, then definately the one with only 1 carb.
