You will get varying opinions on this.... here is mine.
Caffeine can provide a modest boost to the metabolism, but typically not to a caffeine addict (someone who drinks it every day). A person who will benefit the greatest is someone who does not ordinarily consume caffeine and who is otherwise healthy.
Decaf will provide no benefit to metabolism, in fact it will slow the metabolism.
Coffee, whether it is caffeinated or decaffeinated, is perceived by the liver as a toxin - it must be filtered out of the body as it has no actual nutritional function. ANY substance that is handled as a toxin WILL slow the metabolism because the liver has to work harder and becomes less efficient metabolically.
