How do you keep from bingeing?

Hi All!
I have a question for all those who successfully diet... any time I diet.. i find that after a couple of days I end up bingeing as a result of feeling deprived.. This has made it tough for me to lose weight.. I've tried increasing my calories a bit and even including the food I enjoy in moderation.. but I still end up bingeing.. i know it's that whole diet mindset that is killing me.. anyone have any advice? or can give me some good tips on how they kept from bingeing? thank you!

To be honest, its the same answer. It is a mind thing. You just have to choose not to binge. Its hard,, but eventually it wil get easier. As far as I know, there is no other way to do it.

Cutie, are you "really" restricting your calories? Like under 1200? If so, then many people end up binging due to the deprived feeling of food for a few days or so. If I were you, I would keep a steady caloric intake of like 1500 calories, somewhere around there so you can take your time and have a nice steady weight loss without feeling hungry or that you can't have a little treat here and there...of course not too much, lol. Most people end up doing this (binging)when they are trying to lose weight fast by not eating enough calories. Take your time, and don't do that to yourself, you know you can do better than that, we all can if we were in that "mindset." How are you doing it? Like calories etc?

Re: How do you keep from bingeing?

Jessica is right, don't reduce your calories too much, the body actually (I think) puts on weight when not getting enough calories, or maybe it just makes it harder to lose weight that way. I get confused as to which is right. Also, keep a glass of water handy, so when you feel like snacking at the wrong time, you have water instead. As far as snacks, pick healthy snacks to keep in the house, instead of junk food. You can't eat what's not there. Something that I do, is pick two nights a month when I can have a treat. That way I am not feeling deprived of anything. When I am going to have ice cream for a treat, for example, I just get a pint, and eat half one day, and the other half the next day. Another thing I do, is when I feel like having a snack, I don't go get something immediately. I find something else to do, like read a book, clean something that needs cleaning, or exercise, or shower. I do something that doesn't go with eating. Anyway, I hope that helps. Keep up the good work, and don't be too hard on yourself when you do slip up and binge, because that can lead to more binging and guilt that none of us dieters need....

Re: How do you keep from bingeing?

I eat whatever I want all day every Saturday. This keeps me on track and if I feel deprived I know that it's only a few days till I can have some treats. I have still managed to lose roughly 100lbs at a rate of 4-5 lbs a week useing this process. The rest of the week I follow weight watchers.
