Getting rid of fat and becoming fit again...

i am a 36 year old male who on sunday will turn 36 years old, i don't feel 36 years young...
i am 6'4" and 250 pounds / in the year 2000 i was 190lbs and 5% body fat...

it's time to stop being fat... i know what i must do, clean my system, eat healthy and EXERCISE...

My goal is to lose 60 pounds in 12 weeks or 5 pounds a week...

i am focused and ready...

i will eat 10 oranges, 6 apples, 6 bananas, 10 almonds, 1 grapefruit, and spinach only in water and DRINK WATER all day...

i will workout 6 - 7 times a week:

the plan-

a 12 minute easy warmup walking

stretching for 45 minutes

stairmaster for 36 minutes

gravitron briefly then nautillus lower body or upperbody (days alternate)
strength training

60 minutes on the eliptical machine

12 minute abs workout

60 minutes on a treadmill walking

60 minutes bike riding outdoors or on a exercise bike

cooldown 12 minutes then stretch 45 minutes

ice feet, knees then steam room and hot tub

maybe another 60 minut bike ride or some light exercise each night

the food i consume will be taken before, during and after exercise...

Anyone else out there who has been really fit before and now has let themselves become lazy and fat?

i am tired of this and i am ready to get back to work....

Re: Getting rid of fat and becoming fit again...

Good luck to you. I am doing the same thing...trying to get "back" into good shape and good health.

My advice (if you are asking for any) is to do it for you. "Diets" can fail because they are geared towards the goal of pleasing others in general or someone else in particular. Just do it for you and you can't lose (well, you can lose...you get the picture).

Good luck and God bless.

Re: Getting rid of fat and becoming fit again...

Thanks, nothing to prove to anyone, except me... i just am tired of "letting my body go" and i know what i need to do to get back on track...
It isn't so much as i am asking for advice, but support, in knowing that there are others out there who have struggled with the same issues...
Once i was very fit, but i lost that and bit by bit i would say tomorrow, tomorrow and keep on the same path of lethargy...
i know that is "healthier" to only lose about 2 lbs a week and be more "moderate" in fitness, but i know myself and if i focus on a structured plan and keep at it i will saty motivated... Turning 36 is waking me up and it's time to be free from fat...
Of course i want to lose the weight to "look better", etc... but it's for me and how i feel and who i want to be more than any other time in my life, so i joined this group gain encouragement and to encourage others and not feel as alone...

Re: Getting rid of fat and becoming fit again...

Hi thinsoon, I wish you luck, I think most of us have been there. I myself gained 60 pounds (through a twin pregnancy, but still) and am still working on the last 7-8 pounds, which are the hardest for me because I was in really great shape prepreg. Just wanted to say, I think 5 pounds a week is a bit aggressive. I'm not talking about it being healthy or not, but I know myself, when I set goals too high and maybe only get half way there, for example in your case losing 2.5 pounds a week, I would get upset. Instead of being happy I have changed my old ways and did a good job getting half way there. All I'm saying is be realistic and don't get down if you don't get exactly 5 pounds off a week. Stick with it regardless, hope for the best and be prepared for some bad times like plateaus and diet slips, it happens to the best of us, keep us posted.

Re: Getting rid of fat and becoming fit again...

Is anyone going to say the truth here? Your "Plan" includes working out about 6 hours a day or more and eating basically nothing but fruit. While your weight certainly was better at 190, you were not in a good range if your body fat was really 5% (that may have been a typo, that seems really really low), you NEED 5% or you will pretty much die. Normal for even the most elite athlete (think Lance Armstrong) is minimum 6% but somewhere between there and 13%.

I think that if you feel like you want to get in shape you need to rethink this plan and act more responsibly to your body. You could probably do an hour or two or exercise a day, but 6+ hours! You should give yourself a break! I am 100% for hard work and dedication, but you are going to injure your body in the process. Look up on the exercise and fiteness board and ask Naxis about this workout, she knows her stuff and I guarentee she will prove to you that this is really way more than "dedication" not be "fat and lazy"
