Someone help please before I binge!!!

I'm relatively new to the board and I preview it from time to time and get and give advice here and there, but now I REALLY, REALLY, need a helping hand.

This is my second serious attempt at losing weight and I need to lose atleast 50lbs. The thing is, last summer around this time, I managed to lose 25lbs in 3 months doing it the right way of counting calories, limiting fried foods and snacks, eating in moderation, drinking lots of water, and powerwalking 5-6 days a week and just thinking healthy overall.

Well now, I'm trying the same approach because I fell off the wagon and I'm a year older (25), but for some reason, it's been 3 weeks and I haven't dropped anything, maybe 2lbs at the most. It's frustrating because the last year when I did this, I lost nearly 5lbs a week, then 2lbs every week after.

I am so tempted to just say screw it and order me some Pizza Hut. I am hungry right now and I just finished eating a low cal budget meal 20 mins ago and have been trying not to pig out on "healthy" foods because I can still halt my weightloss overeating with those. Not only that, I've gotten so obsessed with counting calories! I feel if I go over 1700 cals I'm gonna gain weight and actually after doing 10 different required calorie calculators online, my average to lose 1lbs a week just by diet is 2300 calories (yes I'm fairly overweight), so I'm still under, but I can not tell you how afraid I am to eat even close to 2000.

It's been blazing hot, but at night i still get out there and force myself to burn 250-350 calories during a powerwalk. I am young and too beautiful to be fat. I am nearly in tears typing this because I want this so bad. I'm so tired of failing, I really am, but this is getting soooo hard doing it the RIGHT way and I refuse to start back popping pills, low carb dieting, etc (been there done that, lost, gained, and failed).

I'm wondering if certain foods are triggering my no weightloss? I measure my portions as much as I can. Because now that I have discovered low budget low cal meals like Smart Ones, I eat those often, and they are alot of pasta, but they are low calorie, low fat and I now have cereal for breakfast with skim or 2% milk (about 200-300 cals per bowl). I feel like I am really eating well compared to how i was eating prior to this 3 weeks and I should've been down atleast 10lbs by now, that's just how my body has worked in the past. I just dont' know what I'm doing wrong? Last year, I was eating mainly fruit, chicken breasts, veggies, subway low fat sandwiches, and granola bars for sweet snacks, but those foods got boring. I wonder if the carbs from pasta are prohibiting my weightloss? I just don't see how if they are low fat and low cal and I'm NOT going over my required calorie intake??

I've heard it gets harder as you age, could it be because a year older now it's gonna take longer? I'm not looking to see a 20lb loss here guys, I just want the scale to budge and see STEADY weightloss and my clothes to be loose, and when I think they are loose, reality tells me it's my imagination.

Now I'm really just counting calories, but trying to make a healthy decisions, but I am really feeling like I'm not meant to be smaller and just go run up and get the McDonalds I've been craving all month.

Advice someone, PLEASE. I feel like a failure!

Hi ShapelyShay!!

I am sorry to hear you are struggling I honestly dont know what the reason could be that you are not loosing like you did before but dont give up!!! You are doing great and you seem to be really motivated and strong so hang in there! Maybe you could try and vary your meals a bit? Try a different sauce, veggie, new healthy snacks or even try cooking a different way. That helps me stay on track and shake up the whole "diet" vibe.

Good Luck and keep it up!!!

Jade

Re: Someone help please before I binge!!!

Hi,

Hang in there.

I am also prone to hunger and cravings that are so strong.

On my food plan I have "free" foods such as carrots, cerely, apples, bananas, etc. While all of my "free foods" are not calorie-less, I know that I will not eat more than a couple bananas or apples.

When I get a bad sweetcraving I try to substitute a piece of hard candy for it and just wait it out.

Good luck! Hang in there.

M

Not to "beat a dead horse", but I am 5' 11" Male and of medium build. I dont get an awfully lot of exercise. The ONLY way I can loose weight is to cut down to about 1,000 calories a day and 1,500 calories is maintinence, "keep the same weight" for me. And I had to all but cut out all STARCHES, not all carbs... STARCHES are Potatoes, Pastas, Breads, Muffins, Bagels, Cereals, etc, etc......

Hey, everybody is different, this is what works for me.... Yes, I think you are having problems with the carbs.

Re: Someone help please before I binge!!!

Well I hope you stick with it. I know it is very hard to lose weight, but you have to also realize that you do platuea in weightloss you can have say 12 weeks good loss,12 weeks no loss, the back to another 12 with better loss. If your that hungry then you may be doing something wrong. I know dairy and yogurt are some of the more filling things, also fiber keeps you fuller longer.
if you are that over weight eating 2000 calories won't make you not lose weight. PLus if you are as good at working out as it looks like you are, it may be easier to add a day or work out twice a day instead of starving yourself. You just have to know are you really hungry or just think you are? It is hard, I think evening is the hardest, have you tried eating a snack an hour or 2 after dinner to crave the hunger. My best friend if i get to hungry is carrots and high yield vegitables, you can also eat lots of leatuce, what I think its 45 calories or so for a head of lettuce, its like eating solid water. Just a few tips.
