Dieting & VERY HUNGRY

I'm a 22 years old female! I've been dieting for about 3 weeks now and I'm almost at breaking point. I know that I'm not eating the right way, but I dont know what I should be eating. My mom is diabetic so I'm trying to not only diet, but diet off of a diabetic menu. I dont want to take any chances on becoming diabetic so I'm starting NOW. Here is what I'm eating...fresh salads with no dressing...turkey...baked chicken....fat free cottage cheese, lots of water, skim milk, special k, green tea, white tea, brocolli, sugar free jello, fish,. This is what I've been eating for 3 weeks now. I have lost 14 pounds but I'M STARVING and bored with it. My body feels like its craving something solid like bread but I know that is a "no-no". Anyone know what I can eat other then the foods I have listed??? Thanks so much - Katie

Add more whole grains like brown rice and forbidden rice and whole wheat pasta or barley..you can dress them with veggies and low fat salad dressings. You will have more saity with whole grains. I am never hungry and am down almost 2 sizes in 8 weeks..Lisa

Re: Dieting & VERY HUNGRY

you dont need to cut out bread.....just make it Whole Wheat.

I guess the more important Question is how many Calories are you eating every day?

If you have lost 14lbs in 3 weeks it probably means you are eating very little. If you start to eat some more you may not be hungry but still be able to lose 2-3 lbs a week.

Re: Dieting & VERY HUNGRY

Katie, I agree with Moxie & Piper in that you need some grains. My diabetic neighbor turned me on to a whole-wheat pasta called Barilla Plus, found at regular grocery stores. It's way yummy, but needs to cook a bit longer than regular pasta.

I also think you need some good fats in your diet. There's a big difference between a no-fat diet and low-fat diet, and it looks like you are consuming no fat. Use a teaspoon of olive oil with some balsamic vinegar on that salad of yours. Rub a little olive oil on that fish and chicken, sprinkle with herbs before you cook it. You don't need to go crazy with it if you're trying to lose some weight, but I've tried no-fat diets and I'm starving when I tried them...plus I get a host of other health problems, too, with no fat.

For your brocolli, there is a pretty good spread with no t-fats; it's olive oil and flax oil. It's called Smart Balance Plus Light. Not all stores carry it, but it's very tasty. I put it on my brocolli and beans.

Good luck to you!

Lysne

Re: Dieting & VERY HUNGRY

Hi, I've also been dieting and been hungry. However, I think I need to be hungry a little bit of the time each day to lose. I eat mostly whole wheat. I'd be too hungry without it. I weigh everything that isn't individually packaged and/or have the calorie information on it. For a snack I eat a slice of whole wheat bread (80 calories) with a slice of 2% cheese (40 cals) or a few slices of low fat turkey (30 cals) or a piece of fruit. I eat total whole wheat cereal for breakfast and weigh it to the gram. For lunch I eat a diet frozen entries (320-360 cals) or canned chunky soups and a slice of whole wheat toast or a peanut butter (1 tablespoon) sandwich with a piece of fruit. For my evening meal I steam a variety of fresh veggies (potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, carrots, onions, peppers, broccoli, green beans whatever) and sprinkle with a little 2% shredded cheese and cook a 3-4 oz piece of lean meat on a indoor grill and eat 40-50 calories of fruit. Before I go to bed I drink 1/2 a beer. It's working for me. I limit myself to 1000 calories a day 5 of the 7 and eat about 1600-1800 2 days of the week. I've lost 13-14 pounds in about 8 weeks. I don't do extra exercise I just try to be more active doing jobs around the house like scrubbing walls and ceilings and doing extra yard work. This is a very simple diet. Two days of the week I eat something that's got some soul satisfaction to it. A slice of pizza or takeout oriental food or good greasy tacos, whatever that isn't over the top but gives me that full and satisfied I just want to nap feeling. There is lots of fiber in this diet so drink lots of water.
