| Re: Curves - The Gym
I was a member two years back, and my sister-in-law is now a member.
It's not intense. It's very laid back, gets your heart pumping, with very light/mild strength training. The ones in my neck of the woods are very strict about no men. It's not like a regular gym where sometimes you get the feeling that it's a pickup joint. The ladies who attended mine were all in their 40's through 60's and just wanted to lose weight, not really tone up and build a lot of muscle. They were extremely pleasant...no intimidation factor whatsoever.
My only complaint was my Curves was adamant about automatically deducting my membership fee monthly from my checking account. I don't subscribe to having any fees taken out of my checking account automatically. I offered and they agreed to my paying the entire year's membership fee in advance at the time I signed up. Well, the franchise owner here took my check for the entire year, and then she still deducted the monthly fee for the first couple months. It was a giant headache to get my couple months' worth of fees refunded. Things got a little nasty, words were said by both of us, and it just became a little awkward to go back. Plus, the lady franchise owner here was the sister of one of the judges I work with regularly, so then I really felt I should just cut my ties with Curves.
If it weren't for that, I'd probably still be a member.
Good luck!
