Water making me puffy

When I drink the recommended amount of water (usually 7 glasses since I am not a very big person) I get extremely bloated and puffy. My stomache literally looks about 5 months pregnant and my thighs and my whole body seem to swell.Happens all the time, not just during "that time of the month". My question is..what is up with that??

Re: Water making me puffy

Natalie, are you sure it's form the water consumption, or could it be something else? My doctor told me that contrary to popular belief drinking alot of water will not cause swelling or puffiness. According to the doc water actually will flush your sysem and help with swelling and puffiness.

Re: Water making me puffy

Well, when I drink a lot of water (say 2 large glasses in an hour) I can see my stomache swell, and my pants will be super tight. I have actually decreased my water consumption to see if the swelling went away and it did. I am wondering if I am drinking too much water (there is such a thing?) as I am a smaller person, so obviously don't need as much water as someone larger. If I drink a lot of water I find that I go to the bathroom 2-3 times a hour, which seems excessive.

Also,I have heard conflicting research saying that your urine should be almost clear, and that is how you know you are properly hydrated. But others have said that if your urine is clear then your kindneys are in hyerdrive.

Re: Water making me puffy

You are probably dehydrated most of the time, hence when you do drink a suitable amount your body tries to hold onto it, causing the swelling. If you keep drinking a good amount, your body should get used to it and you wont get the swelling anymore.
