Metabolism question

Without going into too specific detail, I feel like I'm losing more weight than what I'm working for. Is it possible that going from a completely sedentary lifestyle to light excercising (only about 30 minutes of walking every other day) has been enough to raise my metabolism a considerable amount?

I had some blood work done a few months ago but to be honest I don't remember what I was tested for. I know overactive thyroid was one. My doctor didn't seem too concerned since I was trying to lose weight so it wasn't completely unexplained weightloss. Its also possible that I am eating less than I was before without realizing it, but I haven't done much with diet other than cutting out between meal snacks.

Edit: by the way, when I am walking I make sure to keep a pace where my heartrate is elevated to somewhere between 120 and 160 beats per minute the entire time.

hi,
yeah excersise will increase the metabolism....so you do eat less and not hungry..its good that you don't eat snaks...try drinking lots of water, I think that when a person starts a diet /or in your case eatting less your body don't know when to stop loseing the weight....your luckly...lol
to be safe always check with your Dr if you think something might be an underlying problem with your rapid weight loss.

I just started my diet too. I have not exercise much but have cut out alot of snacks and portions. I have lost 6 pounds in less than a week. It feels good and gets me motivated more. Happy New year to all

Adding even a small amount of exercise will affect some people's metabolism, but it usually isn't lasting. Your body adjusts. It's the increase in activity, not the level of activity, that causes the metabolic rate changes.

I would say that if by all other measures your current level of activity is what you are after (the target cardiovascular and strength benefits you want, for example) then just stick with that and don't worry about the weight for awhile. If after being on the same exercise routine for a month you are still losing weight faster than is comfortable to you talk to a doctor. It may be something unrelated to the exercise that is coincidental with your starting to exercise.
