Re: How To Overcome Emotional Reasons for Overeating??
I have the book "the ultimate Weight Solution" by Dr phil. I haven't read it yet,but it describeson why we eat and how to overcome it. I want to start reading it some day. I will let you know if its any good.
Re: How To Overcome Emotional Reasons for Overeating??
Geneen Roth has written several books about emotional eating and food addiction. I thought I'd give one of them a try last summer and ended up buying all of the books she's written. They are wonderful. I can't say enough good things about them and I would highly recommend them to you.
Yes, food addiction is a problem just as drug addiction is a problem. I don't believe you can do it alone. However, if you don't want to get the books (or if you need something in addition to the books), I wouldn't recommed an occupational therapist (as I believe they help people with daily living skills) , but instead someone who deals with cognitive behavioral therapy.
Re: How To Overcome Emotional Reasons for Overeating??
Don't to an occupational therapist for over eating or binge eating disoder, look for a therapist with experience with eating disorder, or even a support group. It IS an addiction, and maybe harder to beat than drugs or alcohol because a drug addict or alcoholic can avoid their addictions but over eaters never can aviod their's....food. Certain foods are triggering to the brain, i.e. emotional responses, carbs can make you "happy" temporarily, so it is frustrating when people just say to overeaters "stop eating so much!" because over eaters just can't STOP.
Re: How To Overcome Emotional Reasons for Overeating??
I think you just need to ask a specialist in this field to help you.
As Dr Phill's book goes..I don't much think you will like it...he's to blunt and says that its a persons own faught if there over weight and he useing a logical approch to not over eatting....don't eat whats bad for you and eat in moderation, ect,,ect,,he right but still
