Good meal replacement

I work in a restaurant. I'm trying to eat better and part of doing that is eating more often so your metabolism keeps it's tempo up. It's no where NEAR practical...or even possible, really...for me to stop and eat a meal (even a small one) every 2 or 3 hrs. I've been looking for a good meal replacement option. There are 2935786297364926358610257926349810826523 4 different kinds of protien bars, energy bars, shakes, pills...all kinds of stuff out there and I don't know what to look for. I've been had Clif Builder bars (and Clif in general) recommended to me and have had a few of them. They're actually very good. This is surprising. To me, if it tastes good, it's probably not good for you...but I could be wrong.

Anyway...what do all of YOU suggest as far as this goes?

How many calories? I've been told around 300 for a snack and around 400-500 for meal replacement.
What nutrients and all that? I have no clue.

Stuff like this...what should I be looking for when it comes to these? I don't know. Right now I'm just goin by price for the most part...98 cents for a Clif bar ROCKS!

Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks...:-D

Re: Good meal replacement

Somebody else can answer the calories as we all have different Gene Maps/DNA but i'd look for 2 ingrediants that shouldn't be in them that you'll find that are in alot of the meal replacement bars and those are ''Partially Hydrogenated oils'' and ''High Fructose Corn Syrup'' as these are unnatural in nature and bad for the body.........

Re: Good meal replacement

try to eat like veggies,(fiber) proteine(meats) a more of a balance meal and you don't always have to call them meals just a snack ever 2 or 3 hours during your shift..if you can? to keep from geting hungry. take a multi vitamin every morening
maybe try to exercise some during the week, if you have a treadmill they work great for weight loss, walking does your body good and walking you can think of it as not exerciseing....I watch TV while use the treadmill and in 45 minutes to and hour I walk 3 plus miles and feel much better, burn calories and my metabolism is up.

try to stay away from the ''energy bars'' most of thenm have sat fats or partially hydrated fats, there the ''bad guys''. most energy bars have sugar corn-syurp altho some bars like the special k bars or rice crips bars are low in calories, they have the bad ''guys'' in them, and thats what you need to try to avoid
try to remember anything that says partially hydranated or saturated fat...avoid thos at all cost not only for weight loss but for your over all health as well.
most things that are processed has those bad guys in them...read the food labels ,you will be suprise as to what all and how much all the foods we buy is honestly bad for you and whats in them.
its very hard to first start out not knowing? just read up on good nutrition, you will be amazed at all the diffrent kinds of foods out there.
don't forget to exercise if you can.

Re: Good meal replacement

I actually posted this regarding walking in another thread (that mysteriously died and/or disappeared...). Lots of people and diets recommend walking. As I said before, I am a server. I spend at the VERY LEAST 3 hrs a day (as much as 10 hrs a day when I work doubles) walking at a moderately fast pace around a restaurant...EVERY DAY. I would think this would count for something, wouldn't it?

I'm reading many more labels now than I ever have before and it really is quite interesting. I'm also starting to learn what to look for. I just recently discovered the Lo-Carb Monster energy drinks. The gas station by my house has special "XXL" 24 oz cans of them. They're hard to find and not cheap when you do find them, but if you can get them they're great. You'll definately feel it, there is no high fructose crap in it, there are only THIRTY CALORIES in it (YEA! IN A 24 OZ CAN!!!...for a bit of reference, check out a Mt Dew panel next time you see one layin around...) and only NINE grams of sugar! I highly recommend them!
