Hi,
I have lost 27lbs since the beginning of Feb. I was 212 and I am now 185(generally 2lbs a week). I am 5'3 and a woman. For about 3 weeks my weight has not moved except to go up a 1lb or back down the next day. I do cardio 6 days a week(45 minutes treadmill and bike). The past 3 weeks I have mixed it up by doing aerobics some days. I have tried all the tricks upping my calories for a few days( I usually eat about 1400-1500 calories a day)I drink plenty of water and take vitamins.I change my workouts and yes I weight train 5-6 days( top one day and bottom the other). I also take my measurements. They too have not changed in over 4 weeks. What am iI doing wrong? I am getting very frustrated as I still have over 40lbs to go. Is there any truth to the fact that as you lose weight you will get stuck for a period at weights that you previously weighed in the past. I did use to weigh this weight for years. Is this a myth or truth.Thank you for any any advice.
I'm no dietition or anything, but I do know that if you have the same diet for a really long time, your body gets used to it and adapts, so you have to change some aspects of your diet. Maybe you knew that, maybe not. ((I'm just excited because I feel like I know something about nutrition haha))
Sounds like you are doing the right things.....I would just keep up the good work...it will probably start coming off soon. Even if it didnt you would still have to keep up with what you are doing to make sure you dont gain. So Whatever happens dont give up and go back to eating the way you used to. Some Plateaus can last a long time others can be relatively short. It is different for everybody. Just mix things up as much as you can. Mix in some high calorie days....instead of 1500 every day make 1500 the average for the week. do 2000 one day 1250 for two days, 1400 for a day, 1600 for a day, and 1500 for a day, or something along those lines.

When you do cardio, do you do at least 20 minutes of high intensity? By that, I mean do you have 20 minutes of totally sweating and not even being able to hold a conversation?
I just read a book and this is the key to exercising for weight loss because it affects metabolism. The trainer recommends 20-60 minutes of INTENSE exercise 7 days a week. If I were you I would try working out just 30 minutes on one machine making sure besides warmup and cooldown there are 20 intense minutes.
Jane...Hig Intensity exercise is very good that way....but it should NOT be to the point that you cannot carry on a conversation. IT is usually considered that if you can not carry on a conversation that you are working too hard. this type of intensity is best done in intervals not straight through.

what bluejbirdie said re: mixing up the calories...I agree. Your body is very efficient. After three-four months at 1400-1500 cals a day, your body has learned to "live" on that number of calories. It very happily can sustain your weight at 1400-1500 cals per day by lowering it's metabolism.
By doing as bluejbirdie suggests, you are forcing your metabolism to "oh my gosh, I have to deal with 2000 cals today; I'd better speed up."
Also, if you are eating just three meals a day, you might try having smaller portions throughout the day, say, eat six times a day. Somewhere on this board is a recent "starvation" thread that says your metabolism will be more efficient, i.e. burn higher longer, when you keep it stoked with food throughout the day.
Hi,
Thanks guys. Don't you know the scale finally went down a pound. Iam going to keep mixing it up like you guys said. I appreciate the encouragement.Thank you.
Everybody plateaus. Don't sweat it. This is true whether you are trying to lose weight, or trying to become a competitive athlete or trying to learn to do anything. When you are doing everything right and you are at a plateau, I think of it as your body resetting its set point - getting comfortable where it is. Mixing things up does help. Good luck.
