The weight loss clinic I attend only wants me to perform cardio. They say I am to perform absolutely no strength training or anything having to do with weights. However, I have been doing a little strength training on the side . I asked them is it because strength training may slow my weight loss and they told me "yes". But, I thought muscle helps speed your metabolism, thus, helps to burn more fat? Can anyone shed light on this?
That is very strange. My trainer has me balance strength and cardio. I am a 47 year old female and I don't mind having some muscle, I have noticed since I gained some, it is easier to keep the weight off. (just as important as losing it in my opinon)
I also have some guy friends who are very heavy in to weight training and they can eat 4500 calories a day and lose weight.
