Calculating your needs of calories and fat grams

I count both calories and fat grams when I eat. I've been using this method awhile, and I got it out of a cookbook that my mom has. I was looking at it again today, and I thought I would post for you the calculations for your daily calories and fat grams incase anyone was curious or needed some help!

Determining your calorie needs

Faster weight loss: 9 calories/lb.
Slower weight loss: 11 calories/lb.
Maintenance of weight: 14 calories/lb.

Multiply your current weight by 9 or 11 calories-per-pound body weight. That will give you an estimate of total calories to consume per day that will result in weight loss.

your weight X 9 = calories

Fat Gram Calculation

daily calories from above X .20 = calories per day from fat
calories from fat (divided by) 9 = grams of fat per day

Re: Calculating your needs of calories and fat grams

Thanks for posting this.
I just don't agree with this method sorry!
sample= body weight 250lbs...ok times that by 9 =2250 calories...so a person can consume 2250 calories daily and lose weight?

not that I need to lose any weight, I hit my goal a couple weeks ago, but I did all my loseing counting less than 1700 calories daily/exercise.
right now I am just doing basicly the same as I been doing for maintance...but I'm still loseing weight...I may go up to 2000 daily calories and see what happens? just for maintance.

I only consume less that 1700 calories and having trouble loseing? sometimes a lb or 2 lbs a week sometimes stay I the same I exercise everyday too!
I CAN JUST LOOK AT A ''CALORIE AND ITS ALL OVER ME IN A NEW YOURK MINUTE

maybe this method works for you, or some others? but I don't think it would work for me.

Re: Calculating your needs of calories and fat grams

Em,

One flaw: with age our calorie requirements keep dropping and thus while a 200 pound KID might maintain at 2800 calories, a 50 year old at that caloric intake would probalby see his weight go up, up and up!

A smaller but yet prounced effect comes from the difference in muscle mass between men and women allowing same aged and weight men to eat quite a bit more than women.

Hey, thats ok EmLittrell,
I...We all know that your trying to help, thats true it's what Dr's will tell you, especially weight loss clinics, and you got it out of your moms cook-book, so don't worry bout it....I have heard of this before
It's true a male can have more calories than female, I guess by the way our bodys are??,I never really understood all that anyway.
that don't seem fair does it!

All I do know is that I can eat more calories and gain like crazy..and eat less calories and lose like a turtle....lol...but hey at least IT'S LOSEING.
I got to my weight goal and I feel fine and look good, I can go buy some decent fitting clothes now and tuck my shirts inside my pants, that alone ups my self esteem...now I just got to get use to all them looks I been getting... from the obbsite sex of course...
Thanks for posting this, I appreciate you.
