Yes, fruit contains sugar.
Some fruits (particularly berries) contain significant amounts of antioxidants. Almost all diets recommend at least one or two servings of fruit per day . . . some allow for more than that. IMHO, it is somewhat individual how much ought to be included in your eating plan.
Chemically, sugars are all very similar. But a piece of fruit has nutrients and fiber that help lessen the impact of the sugar is contains on your system; the white stuff does not, of course.
There is no nutritional requirement for refined sugar, so cutting it out of your diet certainly cannot hurt!
