Need some help calculating

I just got back from an 11 mile run. I have never done over 4 or 5 miles, so I'm hurting pretty bad. Here's my question. If I'm normally eating between 1500-1700 calories to try to get a 500 calorie deficit from my bmr, and then burning 500 calories in exercise, do I need to eat more today to counteract my extra exercise? If I burned 1100 calories running and then stick to my normal calories, that leaves only 400-600 total for the rest of my functions. I don't know if the question makes sense or not, but any help would be great. Thanks

No, I wouldn't eat extra.

If you are trying to lose weight, I think it is sufficient to set a sane calorie level to get you some weight loss even without exercise. So then any excercise atop that is all "gravy." It is just too hard to quantify total exercise work output without some elaborate oxygen measuring equipment. Remeber even walking into a store to buy groceries, or making a bed is "exercise."

Hold the 1500-1700 calories and exercise as much as you can. I GUARANTEE that you won't be able to do that 11 mile run too often in a week...you may not even be able to WALK tomorrow!

How much are you looking to lose, rubato?

Re: Need some help calculating

I think about 10-15 is all I need. I'm a pretty muscular 150 at 5'8". I know I'm not overweight, but am bigger than I want. Mostly more body fat due to the fact that my diet sucked for a long time.

I was shocked when I woke up this morning in no pain at all. And, no I can't do that 11 miles very often. I think I'm going to try to do it every Friday, but that's it. I normally walk 5 miles a day on the weekends and run 3 or 4 on the weekdays unless I bike ride. So, the 11 was kind of a shock to the system!

I always get the MURDER pains the second day after an extraordinary workout.

Let me know how you feel TODAY, Sunday.

No advice -- just a huge pat on the back! Great job with the 11 mile run. You're awesome!
