Past it. Don't know what to do!!

I have got myself into a BIG rut. I have a spinal problem to the extent it effects my mobility. I have been told by the doctors I have a body mass of 45.7 (yes gasp) I do know I am over weight my hubby nags me my family have a go. Yes I know i should be doing something but cannot get my mind set on doing anything. They keep telling me I am morbid obese. Why am I not scared why can't I do something about it. I have tried going to the doctors. They said I cannot have banding as I have a hiatus hernia or even the tablets cause of my occational blood pressure. Boy oh boy I am in a mess.
Please I need a miricle

Jane,

You don't need a miracle, you need calorie control. Pick a number between 1200 and 1500 calories and NEVER exceed it. With ZERO exercise, go for the lower end.
Count and record EVERYTHING that goes into your mouth. When you get to your magic number STOP EATING ANY MORE CALORIES...have Diet Jello, Diet Soda or water or carrot and celery stix.
If you need someone to CHAIN you to a radiator after you reach your number, buy a good lock.

You may need to buy a paperback about calorie control but there are a Jillion of them out there. You will eventually learn to parse out your calories to last you the whole day and which foods are low cal and which are high.

It works....EVERY TIME!

If you find you can't do it alone, then try Weight Watchers. Pricey but effective.
But it all starts with YOU!

<If you don't start soon you will die young...that's what the MORBID part of morbidly obese means.>

Re: Past it. Don't know what to do!!

Hi Jane,

You sound like you had enough motivation to right this post That's a step forward right there. Some people need to be really scared for their lives before they try to lose weight other people just get sick of the way they look or feel etc. Whatever the reason, the best way to lose weight is just to start doing it. I would begin by looking at the diet you currently eat and start seeing what changes you could make that would make it healthier like choosing brown rice over white, whole grain breads and pasta, oatmeal over sugary breakfast cereals, turkey bacon over regular bacon etc. Those usually are fairly easy ways to improve your nutrition. Think about adding more fruit and vegetable and yogurt into your diet if you don't eat a lot of that now. I would switch to roasting, broiling most foods and limit the frying and use healthy oils like canola or olive. Fat free or low fat varieties of cheeses, milk etc are a great way to reduce calorie. Using salsa is a great way to add flavor to eggs, rice etc. I like soy chicken too.

Once you have a healthy diet, be aware of how much a portion really is so you can accurately count how many calories are in that portion. A portion of meat is only 3 ounces which is pretty small similar to the palm of your hand or a deck of cards so if you eat more than that add the extra calories. I have a scale and measuring cups that I use so I know how much I am consuming. That's gets easier too since you get to know the portion sizes fairly quickly.

I would get in the habit of reading food labels too when you shop. When you can avoid dressings, sauces, foods containing partially hydrogenated oils and high fructose corn syrup. They are not healthy for you and there are brands that don't use them. Make sure your whole grains state 100% whole wheat not enriched wheat flour etc.

Once you start eating healthy food and know what a portion is you can start meal planning so that you stay within a calorie limit that you decide is best for you. To lose weight most women generally eat about 1200-1500 a day unless they are extremely active.

I know you have health problems that may limit your mobility so it'll be up to you and your doctor to see if you could try doing some low impact exercise that would help improve your fitness. Walking is a great exercise and suitable for most people needing to lose weight. If that's possible you can start easy and gradually add on a few more minutes etc.

Good Luck

Re: Past it. Don't know what to do!!

Jane,
I understand how you feel and it is very frustrating to say the least.
People can tell you what to eat and how to eat and tell you about all the different so called diet programs, if you have been over weight most of your life then I'm sure your fermilalure with them all.

it would help you to get help from home your hubby/family members don't need to nag at you, that only makes you feel bad within your self.

If you have tried most of the diets out there and none worked for you...even counting caloires.

I understand it's eazy to tell a person to just eat 1200 calories a day thats eazer said than done...but it does work. but its hard for a person over weight that needs to loses a lot...most of us understand!

what I would suggest to you is check in on the new ''Lap Band'' surgery..I don't think there any limitations to it other than having a bmi of 45, I talk to a DR, and he told me if that person that wants the ''Lap band'' surgery and is in overall pretty good health hi-bloodpresure don't count or heart problems don't count. I never ask him about the herina's?
But if you can have the Lap Band. I think you will be glad you did.

THINK ABOUT IT LONG AND HARD, I BET YOU WILL LOSE OVER 100 LBS AND MORE...EAZY! Within a year!

Think about that, its a safe telscopic type surgery, USALLY same day surgery, its adujstable and reversable, read up on how the Lap Band'' works it is expensive but very well worth it to lose all the weight you want to lose.
