Meridian -- Please Help

Hello. Im new to the board and I would appreciate some advice.

Im 22 years old, 5"9 and weight 175 pounds. I would like to lose about 20 pounds, and my doctor prescribed Meridia 10mg to me. I have been trying to lose weight all summer before this, and nothing worked. I work out 5 days a week. However, i have a bad history with yo-yo dieting, so its not as if I can just cut calories and start to work out and the weight will come off, since I already do this. Hence the Meridia.

In the first week, I lost 5 pounds and was only eating about 1000-1100 calories. I didnt think this was very healthy, so this week, I started to eat 1400 calories/day, even if I wasnt hungry, and I ended up gaining two pounds. I have also been working 5 days a week still. I talked to my Doctor, and he said to only eat when i was hungry, even if this is only 500 calories/day. This doesnt seem right to me. So i was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience, and how many calories they were eating while on Meridia?

thank you

Re: Meridian -- Please Help

I take Meridia, 10mg also and only eat 1,200 calories/day. I also work out a lot and have noticed good results so far. I eat every 3 hours to keep my metabolism up and I don't workout within 2 hours after eating to make sure I'm working off "old fat" instead of what I've consumed! Eating every 3 hours (3 meals, 2 snacks) keeps your glucose & metabolism normal, and also helps so you don't crave or overeat.

My Dr. agreed to this, too. I am doing just fine and don't find myself starving or anything. I do get a few hunger pains so I'll eat a jello or drink some ice water so I don't overeat! If you ARE hungry, just eat - your body will lose weight as long as you're giving it what it needs!

Re: Meridian -- Please Help

thank-you for the input. I think Im going to go back to the 1200 calories a day and small meals/snacks like you do. I think I have really messed my metabolism up over the years, so hopefully this will start to regulate it again. Perhaps my body needs to get used to some regularity before I really start to lose.

Thanks again

Re: Meridian -- Please Help

Good luck!

Regularity is good for your body; it keeps it on track. Maybe that's the key to a lot of weight loss problems people are faced with. They yo-yo diet or try different methods of dieting before really giving something a chance. (as myself; I heard such good things about Meridia, I had to ask my Dr. for it, lol)

But, I wish you a lot of luck and hope you meet your weight loss goal! If you find yourself getting a little hungry after eating the 1,200 calories per day, you can also add in another 50-100 calories or so until you're comfortable. I do great on 1,200 calories but other may not. It's just what your body needs or what you want!

It doesn't quite work this way.
