Increasing calories helps weightloss?

Is it true that you need to eat MORE to continue to lose weight? I've been plateued since April, give or take some fluctuations from a bad week or when I just don't feel hungry.

I've kept my calorie intake the same, I really don't think I can safely go much lower. I've increased the amount of cardio I do, but have kept the weight sessions the same. Should I increase the amount of time I spend on weight lifting? Do I need to increase my calories as well?

I have GOT to get out of this rut.

Re: Increasing calories helps weightloss?

The only time I hear this is true is if right NOW you are not eating enough. If you don't eat enough, your metabolism might slow down some, causing you to not lose weight. However, if you are in a healthy range and where you should be, I wouldn't eat more unless you are feeling hungry all the time and feel you need to.

Maybe your body is just very used to what you are doing and you need something new to "shock it" and get things moving. My boyfriend lost a lot of weight in the past and was telling me about what he did. He ate very healthy and low fat every day and would have one cheat day once a week and would eat pretty much whatever he wanted. He said it would keep his body from getting too used to the healthy foods and not losing any more weight. After his cheat day sometimes he would even lose a pound more! You can always try it... a lot of diets allow a cheat day so you don't feel deprived!

Re: Increasing calories helps weightloss?

according to what I have learned at weight watchers- If you aren't eating enough calories, then you metbolism will slow down and go into a starvation mode instead of your body utilizing those calories for energy. If you don't know anything about weight watchers, I would recommend checking into it. Good information that makes sence.

Re: Increasing calories helps weightloss?

It depends on how much you weigh and your health as for as counting calories go.

you can figure out what your caloric intake should be with a calulating formula, if your weight is 200lbs, then times 200 by 10 that will give you your daily intake of calories you need to ''Manitain ''your current weight at 200 lbs you need to take in 2000 daily calories to maintain your weight.
Now to lose weight, subtract 500 calories and go on a 1500 daily caloric intake and be precise with your counting, count every calorie you take in, its a must for weight loss, if your doing cardio exercise daily about 40 minutes/and weight trainning, you should take vitamin supplements and eat more proteine.
most important no cheating try to balance your calorie intake at about 400 per meal then this will leave you about300 calories left for a night time snack of a low calories food like a yogart/granola bar of some type.
another most important thing is be very precise on the counting.
Good Luck
