You can look up "basal metabolic rate" online. Some sites let you enter your height, weight, etc. and then calculate your BMR. Once you know this you can figure out how many calories you need to cut from your regular diet to lose weight.
For example, my BMR is currently 1,218.2. This is the amount of calories my body would burn if I laid in bed all day and did nothing. If I walk around at work, go to the gym, etc. I'd burn more.
