I don't think you can purchase them in the states any longer, but YES, they work. They basically eliminate your appetite. However, they have a very nasty side of effect of making you incredibly grouchy and irritable! That's the main reason I stopped taking them, not to mention they were getting hard to find. This was a few years ago.
