Re: which one is better?
I think this mostly depends on your own body type and exactly what kind of biking/running. I get the BEST results for myself by running at a challenging pace for myself, BUT I don't have a bike and don't do actual biking. Unfortunately I have to alternate with the elliptical machine due to a knee problem, and I notice I haven't been able to eat as much as I used to. I was surprised at what a difference running did for me. I could do 30-40 minutes, 5 times a week (I would do 3-5 miles) and got awesome results. I take spinning classes and enjoy those, but I do not enjoy the exercise bikes. The spin bikes are much more challenging to me than the regular exercise bikes. Now if you own a bike and plan on biking around town or through some trails, that should be really good.
Some people I know find any kind of biking more challenging because they said they weren't used to using the muscles used for biking. It just depends! Some people find certain activities more challenging than others. Whichever is more challenging for you may be working better for you. I do know that spinning classes can often burn 500-600+ calories!
