Does Calorie Intake Depend On Your Size?

Hello everyone,

I am recently trying to lose weight, I was 210 pounds at 6'4" and I lost 12 or so pounds in about 2 weeks by lowering my calorie intake to about 1,200 - 1,500 calories per day and burning 550+ calories a day running or going on the eliptical plus routine tennis game every other day or so. Now I was wondering if that is enough calories for me not to go in starvation mode and GAIN weight eventually because I am taller than the average person. Thank you.

thesaintex,

In my opinion, losing 12 pounds in 2 weeks is way too much. So it might be better to raise your calorie intake. Try about 1,800 calories and see what happens. Losing weight slowly is healthier. About 1 or 2 pounds per week should be enough.

I agree with JohnR41. That is VERY fast weight loss, unless some of it is water weight. There's nothing wrong with losing weight, but losing too quickly can make it harder to stay at that weight.

Yes, calorie intake DOES depend on your size. At your height, you likely do need more calories. I am only 5'4 and female and eat in the 1200-1500 to lose weight. I'd definitely up to at least 1500-1800 and I am sure you can still lose weight in that range, especially if you are staying active. In fact, I am very active myself and eat about 1800 to maintain. Running has REALLY let me be more flexible with what I eat, more so than any other exercise I've tried. I think I eat more than many female friends I know who are my size or larger!
