Taking Phentermine while on Synthroid/Cytomel

Anyone doing this?

My daughter has been on Phentermine prescribed by a weight loss doctor knowing she was on Levothyroxine. It's been over two months, +25 lbs lost.

Well, she saw a new doctor to treat her Hashimoto's and he has put her on Synthroid and Cytomel knowing about the Phentermine?

Mom gets on the "nets" reads about the dangers and she is now freaking out.

Has anyone with Hashi's ever been on Cytomel and Phentermine?? I have been on the Thyroid threads and was referred here.

Smile Re: Taking Phentermine while on Synthroid/Cytomel

After being treated for more than 3 years by a nurse practioner for hypothyroidism I decided to see an endocrinologist. He diagnosed me with Hashimoto's and started me on synthroid/cytomel. About a year later I started gaining weight rapidly even though I went to the gym regularly & ate healthy. My energy level also dropped considerably to where I could hardly muster up the energy to go up & down stairs. I thought I was going crazy so I started researching online & read about others just like me, (WooHoo, I wasn't going crazy!) & their doctors prescribing phentermine with synthroid/cytomel. I called my doctor & he said that he had prescribed phentermine for some of his patients & would start me on it. Wow! Immediately I noticed a difference. I didn't realize how low my energy was, until I took the phenetermine and got back my "normal" energy level. It's been over a year & no side effects whatsoever.
A lot of what you read online refers to the "diet" pills containing phentermine, and people who do not have Hashimoto's, taking them. Dosage along with the time of day, that you take it is crucial as with any other pharmaceutical.
I would recommend your daughter see a specialist if she isn't already. I go twice a year. Also, eating healthy throughout the day and doing some type of workout is important to maitaining a healthy energy level.

Re: Taking Phentermine while on Synthroid/Cytomel

I have only just started on Oroxine so have not taken any diet pills but two years ago my Dr. put me on them to help loose weight and give me an energy boost and I have maintained my new weight ever since. Am eager to see the answers as sometimes I take a tablet for mote energy. I lost 11kgs on it. It does send your heart rate up so wonder with the synthroid drugs if this would really exacerbate that side effect

I took that and wound up with heart palpatations. I had to have a stress test - it was no fun as it took them 6 jabs to get my viens. My gyn had given them to me and my internist went ballistic.

Re: Taking Phentermine while on Synthroid/Cytomel

if she is only taking physiological doses she should be fine, as her thuroid levels are no different to yours and mine, the pills are merely substituting for what her thyroid doesnt make enough of.

If for some reason she is on higher than normal doses, there might be an issue.

Re: Taking Phentermine while on Synthroid/Cytomel

Hi there. It really made me feel good to read your post because I have been feeling like I am going crazy. I had a partial thyroidectomy in August. I am 52 years old. Since the surgery I have put on around 6 pounds. I have been working out regularly for the past 3 1/2 years but since the surgery I have been dragging. I can barely get through the same workout routine I have always done. The muscles in the back of my legs always ache. I am tired all the time. I feel horrible with the weight gain. I have had blood workups since the surgery and I am hypothyroid. I was started on a 25 mcg dose of levothyroxine then was bumped up to 50 after a blood workup showed no change. I decided to go to an endocrinologist a month ago. I explained why I was there and without even a blood workup he said "I don't think your weight gain has anything to do with your thyroid. It is menopause." I felt stupid. Then he proceded to tell me that the surgery I had to remove half my thyroid was totally unnecessary, even though the goiter was covering the entire left side of my thyroid. I left his office feeling worse than when I went in, so I was a little relieved to hear you also were dragging. I am now desperate to find a doctor who will prescribe me phentermine, as I was on it three years ago and lost a lot of weight. That doctor has since retired and I am having a hard time finding another one who will prescribe it for me I just want to kick start my metabolism, and get a boost of energy I so desperately need.
