Do you like fresh fruit and vegetables? Do you like vegetarian meals?: Salads with dark leafy greens? Vegetarian soups with 1 cup of beans or lentils, 1/2 cup of whole grain rice, barley or wheat berries and lots of vegetables? Limited amounts of nuts, seeds and olive oil?
The above diet will give you lots of fiber and fiber is essential for regulating blood sugar and helps with weight loss.
Exercise is important too! Walking is very good; do lots of walking.
Things that need to be limited: Animal protein and processed foods. Animal protein dosen't contain fiber and high calorie processed foods rarely contain much fiber.
One last thing: No aniversary cake, soda or ice cream.
