There are a lot of different vitamins out there but they also need certain combinations to absorb correctly. There are hundreds of books on the subject or ask the person at the health food store when purchasing them. Overall, the best way to consume your vitamins is through a good balanced diet.
If you are a female, you need to get some vitamins in you to keep you healthy throughout your life span. I personally take a pre-natal vitamin I purchase at any drug store. I asked my doctor how I can be certain that I am getting enough nutrients/vitamins (since my diets are sometimes restrictive – depending which one I am trying that day/week/month). He recommended that I take a generic, over the counter pre-natal. Since I have been taking it, about 7 months, I feel better and my skin, hair, and nails are looking great. Hope this helps, CC
