i am a 26 year old female. for the past 3 years i have had some major weight problems. i've tried everything to lose weight. i've exercised, i've starved myself, i've watch every calorie, every fat gram, every everything, i've tried diet drinks, diet foods, every diet pill i could find, i've done everything i could to get the weight off, but nothing works. i lose 5 or 10 pounds and although i'm still doing the same thing i was doing when i lost the weight somehow i'll manage to gain back what i lost and a few pounds more. i have never in my life been a fat person, and i've never had problems losing unwanted pounds, but for 3 years now all i've had are problems. i'm about 90 pounds over weight, is there anyone out there that either knows someone or they themselves have found something, anything, that has helped them lose more than 40 pounds? please write me and let me know if you do, i really have to get this weight off of me, i can't handle it anymore. please write me if you have something that will help.

I'm in much the same boat. I've always been overweight and have tried all kinds of crazy things. The best I did was a few years back when I basically became obsessed with working out. For the first time in my life I was approaching the "norm." But I was in junior high, and eventually life got stressful and I stopped exercising altogether and ate instead. Right now I'm the heaviest I've ever been. Up to this point, amazingly enough my health has not suffered (except mild arthritis in one knew-- tore the cartilage during my insane period), but diabetes, high blood pressure and other things run in my family. Normal or healthy eating is pretty much my typical way of life, so changes like drinking more water or cutting fat have done little to make me lose weight. My last exercise venture was good effort and left me w/ more muscle... but there's more fat on top of it, so I have fewer and fewer clothes that fit right.
So, I'm looking desperately for something that'll work. Like I said in my earlier post, I'd love to slim down a bit in time for my friend's wedding, but more than that I'd just like to get down to a healthy weight!

there are a ton more that i've tried, not to mention just not eating at all for weeks, or just eating salads for months, watching every calorie, every fat gram, carbo's, everything. i've tried almost everything there is to try and i can't lose the weight. i started exercising like crazy for a while, about 2 months, sit ups, jumping jacks, leg lifts, arm rotations, butt firmers, lifting weights...etc. did it for 2 months, lost 3 pounds in a montha nd a half and by my 2nd month i gained 4 pounds. right now i am walking between a mile and a half to 3 miles a day and have been doing it for almost a month. so far i haven't lost weight, but i did manage to gain 2 pounds. it almost is starting to seem that i'm just destined to be fat, its a pretty depressing thought.
Have you tried the "Blood Type Diet"? I did it last summer and I was loosing a lot of weight. You eat the foods that are right for your blood type and stay off the ones that are not. I saw a nutritionist and they recommended it to me.They gave me a blood test to find out what my blood type was. I was doing it because they thought it might help constant headaches I get. It didn't help my headaches but I lost about 15 pounds and would have lost more if I had kept on it.
I didn't keep on it because it didn't work for my headaches. I am considering going back on it as I am getting over weight. I need to loose 10 pounds at least and more if possible.
Just thought I would mention it
Hope you find what works for you.
i know where your at iv'e been there for 30 yrs,i looked into and opted for weightloss surgery.
Very drastic yes, but so is being overweight. Look into it it might be what your looking for.

hey there! just wanted to give ya a little encouragement.. I have tried alot of different things myself but one thing I found is to cut out bread..I also have been on the new Xenadrine EFX ( which is ephedrine free). It seems the more carbs I ate the hungrier I got. there is a great book that I got that has 10 questionaires, you take each test, the one you get the highest percenage on is the diet that best would help you. It has alot of different questions that help determine the best plan for you . I really recomend it. I think the book is in it's 2nd or 3rd reprint with a different title.. but look for Dr. Tony Perrone... the first book (the one I have) is called "hollywoods healthiest diets". I think it is under a new title this year. But look up Dr.Tony Perrone on the web. (make sure your spelling is right cuz,the wrinkle cure guys name is similar). anyways check it out it really made a different in knowing what trigers my eating habits and has hepled me get it under control. Best to all ! I just found the new book.. It is called Dr. Tony Perrone's Body-Fat breakthru... best to all!
[This message has been edited by kjack (edited 05-17-2002).]
I was in your place last year - I was so frustrated with low fat/low calorie/exercising but STILL gaining weight. Then... my doctor did some blood work on me and referred me to an endocrinologist. I was diagnosed with something called Polycystic Ovaries. My periods were irregular, I had skin tags, insulin-resistant, more facial hair than I would have liked, thinning hair on top, and I gained weight no matter what I did. The condition has been getting a lot of press lately, but it's certainly worth investigating if you're struggling. I went on Birth Control pills, eliminated sugar, caffeine, artificial sweeteners, flour, bread, pasta, rice, etc out of my life. Dropped weight like you wouldn't believe and felt 100% better. It's also called PCOS. I had never heard of it - I just thought I was crazy.
for 2 weeks, drink nothing but sugar free, caffeie free beverages and water& consume protein powder in between instead of meals. after 14 days, drink 2 shakes a day&eat 1 low carb meal for 2 weeks. then repeat& you should lose weight fast.
i lost 50 pounds last year....and i've kept it off since January. I'm 5'1 i started at 158 pounds i now weight 106. let me just say i tried years and years to loose weight. i always lost weight but id slowly gain it back. My best freid lost 60pounds around the same time as me and is still loosing. My supervisor at work lost 113pounds before i started and she explained to me what i had to do.. i always wanted to loose the weight but i never dedicated my life to doing it. i always worked out the "recomended" 3 times a week. and i never ate what i thought was "junk food". what i failed to realize was that everyone is different. everyones metabolism works different. but when i listened to the advise my boss gave me that had helped so many people before me ....i could just cry because im so happy. i never really thought i was that over weight... i thought i was just gonna loose like 10 pounds or something. i never imagined i'd go from a size 9 to a size 1, from a 32 inch waist to a 24. my entire face looks different i have cheek bones i never knew i had. haha.
this is what i did. i changed my life . every second of everyday i thought about my body what i was gonna eat how i would exersize. this is the trick. try to stay away from anything white. after 2pm no rice bread or anything with carbs except fruit. even before 2pm limit them as mush as you can. eat every 2 hours eat eat fruit and vegetables every 2 hours. NEVER eat anything that is fast food EVER...more than it being extremely fatening .... it has almost zero nutritional value...its a waste of calories! its dirty! buy 40 calorie bread. want pasta?? eat speghetti squash....i love it. train your self to get used to things that you normally wouldn't like. stay away from butter and oil.. if you are making a vegetable stir fry use pam low fat pam....reseach your food before you eat it!!!! eat nut this is a great source of protein...remember lots of fruit and vegetables ... i can not stress that enough its very important!!! this will speed your metabolism especially if you eat it evey 2 hours!!!! when you grocery shop you should notice you look like the healthiest shopper you cart should be filled with all fruits and veggies... you may need to shop more often since these things go bad but its very worth it in the long run... you will notice your grocery bill go down. stay away from canned and frozen foods they have little nutritional value. instead of bread in the morning try oatmeal of a high fiber cereal...from all this fiber and fruit, you will be going #2 more..HAHA this is your metabolism speeding up!!!
now to the exersizing part..when you here people say you should exersize 3-4 times a week......duh hello!!!! thats for people who are maintaining their weight!!!!! if you really want to loose weight you are gonna have to work! they dont call it a work out for nothing! you need to exersize for at least 5 times a week....every chance you get! and i dont mean do weights you need to burn calories !!!!!do cardio!!!! get your heart rate up!!! what it takes to get your heart rate up is going to constantly change!!! when you first start working out all the time you'll probably have a hard time walking for 10 minutes and eventually you'll be running 6 miles!!! and always remember you are not the only one in pain...it hurts to work out your legs and knees hurt really bad and you get sharp pains in your stomach thats normal... i used to have really bad knees i had a hard time even walking! what did i do? i did the most painful thing i could do.. i rode the bike at the gym. it hurt reeaaallllyyy bad but i forced myself thru it and eventually had had muscles built allaround my knees and that took the presure off and now i can run a marathon!!!! when you get fat your body gets fat cells and the only weigh to get rid of those is to sweat them off.....donot waste your money on diet pills, shakes, meals, or whatever....
but for an extra boost os energy take 2 metabolifes about an hour before you work out... do lots and lots of cardio and only do weights once or twice a week and use light ones....but once you get to your goal weight do more to tone up!! good luck everybody
[This message has been edited by pinkjellibeans (edited 05-19-2002).]
I've been searching for a message board for weight loss support. This seems like a good one from what I've read so far.
To Fat & Depressed & others... I have found something that's working for me. Maybe it would work for you too. I think that anyone that wants to lose weight really has to be ready mentally to do it. Any of the diets you mentioned will work... but it all basically comes down to a change in lifestyle. I believe that the key is simply eating less and getting some excercise.
I am very overweight and in my early 30's. Ever since I can remember my weight was up and down. I too have tried just about every diet imaginable. I've basically dieted myself up to a ridiculous weight. If you're in your 20's and having problems with your weight, now is the time to get it in your head to do something about it. If not... you'll be 30 something before you know it and looking back and wishing so bad that you hadn't let it get this bad.
Starting tomorrow will be my 4th week of losing weight. I've done this many times in the past but this time I feel different. I feel more determined than ever. I'm also eating anything that I want. I'm counting calories. I have a program that I use in my computer. A friend gave it to me awhile ago. If you're interested in it, I can look around to see if it's available to still buy somewhere. In this program, you put in your weight and it tells you how many calories you can eat in order to lose up to 2 pounds a week. You just use the program to record what you eat every day and it does the math for you. I eat anything... but I account for the calories. I even go out to dinner sometimes. If I'm going out to dinner, I'm just really careful during the day about what I eat. I'm sure people would see what I eat and never even guess that I'm on a diet. lol As you lose weight, you adjust your weight in the program and then you get to eat less calories. But, as you progress, you kinda get used to eating a little less. You also could do this same thing on paper and a calculator... there's lots of web sites out there with calorie charts on them. I also walk on my treadmill. I started out with only 5 minutes a day. Now I'm up to 15 minutes a day. I've lost 25 pounds so far in 4 weeks. I have a lot more to go though.
I still love to eat. As a matter of fact... I'd usually rather eat than pretty much do about anything else. lol But...I've realized that I can still eat... I just can't eat everything in one day. I don't feel deprived at all either. I used to on other diets. There are certain foods that I know I need to stay away from... but that I can have every once in awhile.
Anyways... I'm rambling but just thought I'd share...
I'd love to keep chatting about this on here if anyone is interested. Does anyone else count calories also? If anyone's interested in doing this, I can give you several tips too. If I can do this, believe me... anyone can. :-)
