I've got a question for all you Atkins dieters and low-carbers.
Okay. Here goes. I've been doing the Atkins diet on-and-off now for about 2 or 3 years, and have always had really good results with it. But, now I'm to the point to where I'm sick of meat! Has anyone else experienced this? That's why I've been "on-and-off", but now I just can't seem to get back on it. I'd love to hear from someone who has been, or is going through this.

Hi BethAnn,, struck a chord with me, lol........Im going through the exact same thing right now. Ive been on a low carb diet, rather religiously, maybe 20 carbs a day, if that..........and AM SOOO SICK OF MEAT I COULD LITERALLY GET SICK JUST WITH THE THOUGHT....i want something creamy, sweet, and different yet cant seem to find any! One thing I did find about 4 wks into my low carb diet, and it is the 5layer dip , i found it at walmart supercenter. Its absolutely delicious,,,,,,,,,,,let me know how your doing, and what you might find to curb your urges to cheat good luck
Re: I've got a question for all you Atkins dieters and low-carbers.
I limit my carbs but not to the degree where I would consider myself a "low carber". I really limit my simple carbs, but only moderately limit the complex carbs, which are okay to eat.
However, if you are tired of meat, eat more cheese and eggs or egg whites.
For those who are moderately limiting carbs, I would suggest Morningstar Farms chicken patties and veggie burgers. They are low in fat, low in simple carbs and packed with protein. And they taste really good. The chicken patties taste a lot like real chicken, except they are made with soy.
I have a lot of problems with the Atkins diet. It has made carbohydrates into some sort of enemy or demon. True, carbs IN EXCESS are bad for you, as well as fat IN EXCESS, protein IN EXCESS, vitamins IN EXCESS and exercise IN EXCESS.
I believe a diet of 50% complex carbs, 30% protein, and 20% fat is a much preferrable and healthy method to lose weight and keep it off.
[This message has been edited by justink80 (edited 06-18-2002).]
Re: I've got a question for all you Atkins dieters and low-carbers.
You know what, Justink80? I'm sick of cheese and eggs too. I want potatoes, pizza, Mexican food, and pretty much-anything that is fattening! I'm 5 ft. 1, and I weigh 128. My normal weight used to be 120-124. Last year, I was really strict on the Atkins diet. I was an exercise fanatic, exercising 5-6 days a week religiously. I got down to 117. I had a work-related accident and could not work out for 2 weeks. During that time I got real depressed and turned to cookies and other sweets. I was mad and took it out on myself. I lost all of my motivation, although I have tried relentlessly. I'll have willpower one day, and not the next. I know my husband thinks I'm crazy. I'll have grilled chicken and a salad one day, then just completely pig out the next! I have found that when I do make myself exercise, I do not eat as much. When I don't exercise, I punish myself and eat things I shouldn't. I know you all are probably saying, "Well, you just need to keep exercising then." Easier said than done. I've tried Xenedrine, Hydroxycut, Stacker2. I've tried them all. Nothing seems to work. Hey Lil_Bit, how long have you been on this diet? How do you go without cheating? What about that 5layer dip? What do you use for the "dipper"? You know, I've read replies to other posts, and it seems that some people out there really have the willpower stay on a diet and stay motivated. I know that eating right and exercising makes you feel good, and feel good about yourself. I think it's all a "mind thing", and I just don't know how to get my mind on the right track. Lil_Bit, keep me posted on how you are doing, okay? Maybe someday soon, I'll get on the right track. As for right now, I don't want any kind of chicken cooked any kind of way. I don't want steak, and I don't want eggs. What do I do? I've tried every diet in the world, in the past, and nothing else seems to work. I gain all my weight below my waist, and I hate it. I have yucky cellulite, and am considering lipo. I think one thing that happened to me last year was, I worked my a** off in the gym, and still didn't get the results I wanted. My upper body looked great, and although my lower body improved, it still wasn't what I had hoped for. Janet Jackson used to be kind of pudgy, and she's short. I've always heard that she used to struggle with her weight. Now she's got a body to die for. Anybody know how she got that way?
I'm sorry for the long post, guys. All of this has been weighing heavy on my mind. I did one of the Firm work-outs a little while ago, then about an hour later, had a peanut butter sandwich and some Pringles! See? I have NO willpower! Ughhh!!
Re: I've got a question for all you Atkins dieters and low-carbers.
I am not low-carbing it because I am indeed a carboholic! But my sis has been on it for about 4 years now. She subscribes to a free newsletter found at the address below. It is free and she receives a newsletter e-mail once a week or so about new recipes, motivation, and hints to keep going. It is great. She forwards the newsletters to me and I find it very interesting.
Also, I live in the Southwest and there are several shops called "Low Carb Malls" which sells all low carb foods and offers a low carb ice cream parlor!! My sis gave it a thumbs up. Look around your city to see if they have anything like that. Also a food place called "Trader Joes" sells a lot of low carb items and also several varieties of low carb candy bars made with that special sugar you can have... sorry can't remember the name...
Good luck, I am amazed that people can follow this program but hopefully the free e-mail newsletter will give you that extra support.

Re: I've got a question for all you Atkins dieters and low-carbers.
Do a search on www.*********** for low carb recipe and you will find lots of intersting stuff. There are interesting low carb recipies like "ziplock bag ice cream" and "low carb chocolate cheesecake" out there.
You can do a lot of things with cream cheese and Splenda that is low carb yet creamy and sweet like low carb cheesecake. Another low carb treat I make is what I call Jello fluff. Just take a small box of sugar free jello, boil 1 cup of water, add boiling water to the jello powder that has been placed in a glass bowl, stir until fully dissolved, add 1 8oz carton of cold heavy cream, stir until well mixed, then place in the fridge until set. It's good, it's low carb, and it's easy.
Re: I've got a question for all you Atkins dieters and low-carbers.
Hey, thanks Arkie and CC! CC, I'm a definited carboholic also. I could live off of bread, potatoes, and definitely sweets! I'll look up all that stuff y'all told me about. That will definitely help sooooo much. Thanks for the recipe Arkie. I'll try that! CC, you said your sis has been doing this for 4 years. How has she done? Has she had any "relapses"? Thanks again, guys! Beth
By the way, Justink80, I've heard a lot of good things about veggie burgers. Was kindof scared to try them, but might just have to. I think I'll be surprised. I just can't see how they can make veggies taste like beef!
Re: I've got a question for all you Atkins dieters and low-carbers.
Hey Everyone
Looks like we are all in the same boat! What reults have u guys gotten from this diet. I can see my results only after 1 week! If I have to eat one more burger ill die. And the stuff u can enjoy u have to order online and it is just way to pricey for me atleast. Does anyone have any good suggestions for food?
Re: I've got a question for all you Atkins dieters and low-carbers.
The trick for eating all that hamburger and chicken is to hide it under a delicious sauce (low carb of course), but the good thing about Atkins is that butter, cheese and cream are allowed(don't forget the calories). L-Glutamine works wonders, and even Dr. A prescribes it. Also L-Phenylalanine helps the appetite. Whenever I crave the bready kind of carbs, I go back on aminos and the craving is gone right away.
