Re: whats the best way?
LOV11, I tried the atkins diet and I don't think I was doing anything wrong.(My husband had been able to do this diet fine and I knew the diet well.) Sometime after the induction(2 week period)part of the diet. I had blood work done, my blood pressure was very high for me... and my total Cholesterol was at 329! But I knew that the constent overload of carbohydrates can screw up the bodys way of retreiving and using up energy stored fats in the body.
What I did find, and it's similar to the atkins diet, and much healthier for you, is the 'carbohydrates addict' diet, do a search. Find a revised addition newer copy of it, at a library, alot more findings in the newer addition.
One of the interesting studies in the book was the bodies response to anything that taste sweet! Including all fake sugars. (and some veggies) In the studies it showed that the brain and body respond to the sense of sweets, and when no real sugar entered the blood stream for the amount of sweetness the body is responding to...it screws up the receptors in the body's organs. Including the brain. And it has alot to do with how the liver functions...all the organs.
I'm prone to diabetes, everyone in my mothers family has it.... Gut gain. Yuck and ouch.
The other very interesting thing was that we feel hungrier when we get any kind of glutamates. There are 21 diff. names/types of glutamates. Some people responded to these like they were given high doses of sugar.(again no sugar in the blood stream) Glutemates are in just about everything pre-packaged. It's called back to the basics for awhile. But now that I've lost the weight and in 2 1/2 months got my blood pressure back to normal, and my cholesterol was down to 192 in a month and a half!
My sister is doing it now and has lost 11lbs and keeping it off, even with occasional slips. It's so much nicer to get that treat meal once a day!! On the atkins diet(I know it works too)you got no reward meals and they said it was OK to take nutra sweet in moderation. That's the unhealthy part for me. In the carbo addicts diet you lose weight and they tell you once a day get some real sugar, so your system is responding correctly. Hope I didn't lose you in extensive length of this post. I tend to be a chatty catty. Diana
I do some other things too. Like enough water, sea/salt (if no swelling) and walk. Lost 15 lbs. and been keeping it off. By the way, I cut down enough to quit all caffinated beverages, still have a beer or two once in a while though. You have to drink 10 of water for every ....6oz.. of alcohol. so needless to say I don't get sick from being dehydrated on alcohol anymore. I could have a beer as my treat for the reward meal in the diet. I also do the 'watercure' diet along with this one. (try a search)Good combo. Take the best of care. PS: remember to get that walk in. They recommend 30min to an hour, twice a day, 12 hours apart, keeps the fat stores open and burning all day and night.
