Please share ideas on calorie saving ideas and low cal snack ideas! :-)
I was wondering if we all could post some ideas of what we do so save calories. Also... to share any low calorie/point snack ideas! I count calories but I know some people are on the WW point system. Both are similar.
Here are some of mine...
To save calories:
1. I always use regular salad dressing(cause I can't stand the diet stuff). Usually blue cheese or ranch or some variation of those. I always order it on the side, or even at home I put some in a little cup on the side. I dip my fork into the dressing and then into the lettuce. I hardly use any at all. You still get the taste but hardly any calories. I'll look at the cup thingy when I'm done and it usually doesn't even go down hardly at all. I usually still will account for a half a tablespoon or a tablespoon of dressing but I know I never even use that much.
(I do the same thing with tarter sauce and mayo, etc...)
2. I use butter flavored "Pam" when I cook. Eggs...veggies, etc... (Lots of flavor and 0 calories)(Sometimes in a big skillet with dinner will saute an onion, summer squash, green beans, and mushrooms in "Pam") (I beleive that in the Weight Watchers plan, veggies are considered as "free"... so I don't usually count these types of veggies in my daily calories)
3. Both cook with, and use on potatoes and rice, etc... "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" spray (Tastes like butter but it's no calories)
Low Calorie Snacks:
fudgecicles 60 calories
popsicles 45 calories
dill pickles(only like 1 calorie per chip)
bac-o's (1/2 tablespoon is about 18 calories and adds a lot of flavor to a salad)
new Tostito's Scoops (13 of them for 140 calories)
salsa!! (especially making this fresh in the summer is great, but I use the stuff in the jar sometimes too)
pretzel rods (3 for 120 calories)
Kraft shreadded cheddar (1/4 cup...cheddar cheese is my favorite and I can still eat it on potatoes, in salads, on chicken...just only use so much of it)
SunMaid Raisins (one box is 130 calories)
1 peppermint patty(small ones) (30 calories)
banana 100 calories
apple 80 calories
grapefriut 80 calories
I also snack on veggies sometimes...sometimes will have leftovers from dinner the night before that I had saute'd in butter flavor "Pam"...
Also raw veggies... carrot sticks, tomatoes, cukecumber slices, etc.... etc.....(All "free" I think according to WW?)
I also use condiments a lot such as soy sauce, worchestershire sauce, A-1, mustard, ketchup, etc...on various things for flavor.
Everyone, I hope you will post and share some of your ideas too! I'd love to hear! Thanks ahead of time! :-)
Re: Please share ideas on calorie saving ideas and low cal snack ideas! :-)
I don't have a huge weight problem, but recently I've started watching what I eat that little bit more and trying to keep off the fried foods etc.
Have you tried Rosemary Conley? Her health and fitness magazine is pretty good for low calorie meals and snack ideas along with diet tips.
I still have my sweet tooth, so instead of eating chocolate or boiled sweets, I go with Ribena ice lollies - they're nice and fulfill that sugar craving for only 41 calories each!
Obviously carrot sticks, tomatoes etc are good ideas for snacks. Have you tried melon? Its mostly water and is meant to help towards clear skin too.

One thing that helps me a lot is brushing my teeth or using mouthwash right after meals and snacks. I mess up the most when I am almost done eating a meal, beacuse I crave dessert then. Once I get going on eating, it is hard for me to stop. Brushing your teeth gives you a great fresh feeling in your mouth a makes sweets taste bad.

I've learned to brush my teeth right after meals, too! *lol*
One of my favorite snacks is popcorn. To avoid adding butter I like to sprinkle just a bit or seasoned salt or garlic salt to add flavor. I really adore caramel popcorn, but it's SO fattening-- so once in a while I'll just drizzle a tiny bit of honey on some plain popcorn instead.

I love to snck on Instant breakfasts (the generic brand is best) with 1% milk. If you put it in the blender, it will give you a nice full feeling. I also like to get those big containers of low/non fat, no sugar yogurt. Then I add equal and fruit.

Here are some of my favorite low-cal/carb snacks:
Fat free/sugar free jello cups,
Glass of low-fat chocolate soy milk,
bag of sugar snap peas (this totally satisfies my crunch needs!)
low carb protein bars- I like the eas cookies & cream.
