Starvation for weight loss

Hi everyone! I read in a magazine that the fastest way for weight loss is starvation. I know it's dangerous but i will do a 20 day fast because i am really desperate to lose weight. Anyone has any advice?

Re: Starvation for weight loss

Hi,

Well, first of all I dont know where you read that. And I do not suggestion starvation. I starved myself when I got depressed and yes, I lost weight, but as soon as I did eat, it all came back. My body went into starvation mode and everything I ate, my body converted into stored fat. To me starvation will make you a smaller unhealthy you. You will not be healthy like this. And it is very dangerous. I mean if it is your decision. I just dont want anyone to get sick. I try to fast only once a week and that is usually the first day of the week. I like to do it to clean my system out. Not to lose weight.

Have you tried just cutting your calorie and fat intake and exercising? I know you are desperate. I think we all have been there or there right now. Just try to take care of yourself and be healthy. Starvation is not a healthy road to take.

Remember, this is only my opinion.

Re: Starvation for weight loss

I also do NOT suggest starvation to lose weight. I heard that when you do not eat, your body eats away your muscle. And it's true, as soon as you start to eat again you gain all your weight back. It's just totaly unhealthy. I'm desperate just like you! I suggest you just try to not eat as much as you normally do. If you can, go and take a walk outside. A few months ago I started my own little diet which I would just eat smaller portions. I also excercised a lot more than I used to. Drinking water always helps as well. I lost 12 pounds in three weeks from that, and it just got me more motivated as I started to lose the weight. But I stopped dieting after awhile, as you see I'm on this message board I have decided to start dieting again, and I started a kind of little support group (it's under the name of "JOIN THE GROUP") and I'm hoping it will help me out. If you want to, you can join with us and we'll try to help you out as best we can. Rememeber that the only one stopping you is YOU. Good luck!

Re: Starvation for weight loss

HI!!
I just wanted to say thanks to Sinnrah and Mal for their honest opinions. I won't starve myself even though I feel terrible. They have made me realize that life isn't all about losing weight. There are much more important things. Again thanks a lot.

Hey Luz,

I am so glad to hear you are not going to starve yourself. Weightloss just takes time...it took me over 6 months...I tried starving too. But what it took for me was just lowering my calorie intake and exercise.

Best of Luck to ya
Sinnrah

Re: Starvation for weight loss

That is the best way to GAIN weight I can think of.

First you will lose weight and then slowly gain it all back and more besides. Read more from the medical journal entry below and take warning:

J Diabetes Complications 1996 Mar-Apr;10(2):109-12

Starvation diet and very-low-calorie diets may induce insulin resistance and overt diabetes mellitus.

Koffler M, Kisch ES. Diabetes Unit, Tel-Aviv University Medical Center, Ichilov Hospital, Israel.

We have observed seven initially obese individuals who, during the course of a strenuous weight-reduction program, developed diabetes mellitus: non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus in five cases and insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus in two cases. None had any sign of prior diabetic symptoms. Although weight reduction is encouraged in obesity, crash diets without proper medical surveillance may have deleterious effects.

I'm so happy to hear your not going to starve yourself. I have to agree that you will only gain weight. Think about when you are so busy during the day and you can't seem to find time to eat. By the time you do get to eat, you eat a lot, or grab the first thing you can get your hands on. You are bound to gain weight!! I drink A LOT of water and I keep only a small amount of sweets in the house. I buy the sweets my kids like and I don't. If there's something we both like, I buy a small amount and tell myself it is for my girls only!! Lucky for me I don't really like sweets. I love my carbs!! Chips and such, but I refuse to buy them. I buy pretzels instead.
Good luck to you!!

Re: Starvation for weight loss

I lost an obscene amount of weight in 2 months by not eating. I was sick, my hair thinned and I had no energy. The kicker... I gained ALL my weight plus about 30 pounds more as soon as I started eating. I have lost 46 pounds since January, Very slow I know, but I feel great both mentally and physically. I have at least 40 more to go and yes I am sooooo frustrated that it is taking soooo long but I am confident I will not gain it back as I have not used any drugs or supplements and I believe I have made a life style change. I know it is not easy but you can do it, please be patient and be kind to your body - you will be thankful. GOOD LUCK, I wish you all the best!
